It will have needed at least one shock in that time as well as a fork overhaul and these are things that are often missed. Personally I wouldn't buy it but I guess if it's in budget and looks and rides ok you could.
I've had both the sprint and the tiger and the tiger is the better for comfort but both very similar bikes, the sprint was ace on motorways but perhaps a bit good as it was all too easy to sit at very high speeds.
Buying again I wouldn't have either tho, for similar budget I'd have a multi but I'm weird like that
I am just not sure about the Multi to be honest... it just looks a bit grim from the front I think ;-)
Just seeing where has both bikes in stock, looking like a road trip to either the Midlands or North Wales at the moment.... I think given the high miler is in London and I really, really cannot be bothered to go down there for a day I will probably rule that one out!
I wouldn't worry about high mileage per se on a bike like that. But it might be worth checking when, typically, major components tend to wear out and when the expensive services fall due, so you can factor those thimgs intothe price.
i might be missing something here, but why the fuss about 40,000 miles?
i mean, it´s a modern motor cycle, not a glass sculpture.
bikes have been reliably doing well in excess of that (IMO meger) milage for years, so why the fuss nowerdays?
my last bike (VF1000f) that i had in england had 82,000 miles on it when i bought it, and i changed the plugs, oil, and filter, got on it and rode it down here without a second thought.
shit, the BMW i had before that was at 85,000 miles when i bought it!
I am still getting my head around mileage on bikes (I do shit loads on 4 wheels, but my current bike is 8 years old with a rather pathetic 12800 on the clock!)
I shall start exploring my options in the next few weeks I think... and probably be a little more open minded on the miles front.
i'd check it's not on the cusp service interval wise, and that the cam chain and gearbox are ok. also be prepared for the fact it'll have very little residual value if you plan to use it a fair bit
