    Thumbs down AGV visors (again)

fucking shite. It's basically all scratched up.

I changed from Arai to AGV. I've only had this helmet for 4 months. The visor has now become scratched (finely) from cleaning it. Now, before you criticise me, I had my Arai for about 5 years, 50,000 miles. I know how to clean a visor without being an idiot.

this fucking piece of shit visor has become scratched very very fucking easily. What a complete load of wank. Looks like i've cleaned it gently with a brillo pad

It's now dangerous riding in the dark / rainy conditions. They shouldn't be allowed to sell this shit. If I was an inexperienced yoof I'd probably just hammer about like a twat and not really be aware that my vision didn't have to be like this.

Can anyone else with an original AGV visor tell me if theirs has the same 'IMAG' name written on the visor? Or have I been ripped off (bought the helmet from George White's - original box etc so I don't think I have been done)

    It's an 'airtech'

    my last complaint:

anyone changed from Arai to AGV?

just found this re: IMAG so it is genuine
2002 AGV becomes part of an important Belgian Multi-national Group which already owned the LAZER brand. The IMAG Group together with AGV, MDS, and LAZER is now the 4th worldwide producer within the sport helmets market.

umm - don't want to be appearing to criticise your perfect cleaning regime, but what WERE you using??

Also - you don't happen to be a rider who wipes the rain off your visor with your gloves do you?

edit - yes you are. Lesson learned, don't touch the visor with anything other than the cleaning cloth!!

Obviously rain goes all over your visor, but on my arai I could still see where I was going. Also, if I wiped it with my glove you could get all the rain over to one side, like a windscreen wiper.

But on the AGV it just seems to speckle-up (yeah made up word) and sit there, and you can't see fuck all? Even if you try and wipe it, it doesn't work. I noticed once before, but didn't think much of it, but it pissed down tonight on the ride home and it was positively dangerous.

    Difference plastics or what?

you SURE you aint using a brillo pad ??
All my AGV visors (inc the softer iridium ones) have lasted a minimum of 4 years or more before they needed changing....
the clear one is still the original one from one of my older lids.....around 8 year old

yeah but nothing in my regime is different from how I treated my Arai.

I reckon the visor on this helmet might be cheaper than on their high-end lids, which is possibly why some of you haven't had a problem?

I posted about his earlier this year...the stealth visor I had did this first time out, first clean. Utter Sh*t I got a replacement FOC from HG, there must be a bad batch out there. The previous AGV I had, the visor lasted ages, same type but it was the stealth one that was naff.

The replacement is fine BTW and has not done the instant fog. I do have a spare one if you would like it not perfect but yours if you want it. Drop me a pm

AGV are the best fit for my head of any brand - isn't that the criteria for a decent lid?

I wipe the rain off with my glove on my Shoei helmets and they don't end up looking like that, even after a couple of years.

Don't go out in the rain.

    YKIMS

Presumably the visor mech. isn't as bad as on the AGV flyer? Blows open - Blows closed - Leaks. Total and utter shit. Never, ever, ever an AGV again.

Agreed... the Airtech is a budget AGV... used one myself when I started riding for four months...

Got fed up with the helmet trying to rip my head off at speed so junked it for an Xlite 801R.

I have the GP Tech. If it's good enough for Rossi, etc. etc.

I wipe the rain off my visor with a leather glove, and find how the water sits in drops much better than on my old arai where it would sit in puddles/smears.

I use soft paper towels/kitchen roll and water to clean it, nothing more or else.

The visor is looking OK after one year just has a couple of marks from where I have caught it eg. once on a wall and once on the end of a luggage rack bolt. The mechanism is exemplary, unlike my shitty old arai astro j was. And quiet.

AGV make very good helmets. This piece of balance brought to you by the Letter A and the Number 3.

I have an AGV S4. This year I managed to scratch the visor pretty much like the photo in the OP, after wiping it whilst riding. I've never managed to scratch a visor on any of my Shoeis despite using them in all weathers and wiping with my glove.

Also on the AGV the paint is peeling on the chinguard, and seal around the visor has become detached. Altogether I am totally unimpressed with the AGV, such that it's the first helmet I've retired within a year of purchase.
