Can you pick your bike up?

What's the bike? And how do you get it up off the deck if you drop it?...

GSXR 750 slingshot (190 kilos dry) can pick it up off its side.

KX500 (mebbe 110 kilos dry now that I've added a few kilos with of roads gubbins) ) can pick it up right off the ground so its not touching the deck at all.

I can pick both bikes I own up off their sides - the CB500 is considerably easier to do than the Thunderbird 900 though!

Warning...contains an awful lot of swearing.

BMW R1150GS? I dunno.. Not convinced I wouldn't struggle. I've picked up heavier bikes, a Suzuki GSX1100F for a start, but the GS is a much taller prospect, where as the GSX's rounded shape was quite good for just rolling it back most of the way. Anger at having dropped a bike is always a useful force multiplier though.

And then there's my trick back.. All in all, best keep it an academic exercise really.

"If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrarywise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?"

GS1200adv - wouldn't like to try.

I dropped my vstrom at a standstill, managed to pick that up ok, but, as hb says, anger/embarrasement is a great aid.

I managed to pick up my 600 fazer after parting company with it. I'm fairly sure that it was a mix of anger and adrenaline that got it up off the floor though

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem

Have managed to pick up a fully laden Pan 1100 up several times, with no real problems. I doubt there are many heavier bikes around...

R1200GS. On the two occasions which I've managed to drop one over the past 5 years, I've been so bloody annoyed with myself that I've just grabbed the handlebars and the subframe and restored the sodding thing to its rightful position on two wheels.

Disclaimer: Once was on a grassy lump in a field while trying to follow a mate on his CRF450 and the other was on a rented GS on a NorCal mountain road while chasing a mate on his GS.

My TDM would be no problem as would the XR1200 but the Electra at 450kg I'm not so sure!

1200rt was no issue but I don't make a habit of putting them on their side to check the theories. If I did I'd use the two hands on bar end that was down technique, anything I have picked up though wasn't very difficult.
