All seems a little excessive and pointless. Re-painting the battery box ? WTF !

On an old BSA or MV single/Ducati bevel or even something like the RC30 i can see the logic to restore as a museum peice. Possibly even an old ex-race 996 from BSB or something.

For an R1... WTF

Also some of the work is a little shoddy. Like the starter motor, still has same bolts in it, so the housing and the bolts are all just sprayed over in 1 go. If you're going to do a job... do it right.

Corrected.

Lots of lovely attention to detail but if you're going to that level, the state of the taping on the wiring loom is fucking appaling!

I have to say that the finished article does absolutely nothing for me but I think that's mainly down to the sticker kit, which, in fairness, he did say he'd removed most of. Reading the build I thought it was going to be lovely when it was done but it actually ended up looking like tat, which is a real shame. Especially if it's cost him £25k!!!!! For a start if you're throwing that sort of money at it, I'd want to dump the OE clocks for something much more sexy. And surely painting the lettering on the tyres is akin to having a "Tracey & Kevin" sun strip in your car windscreen, isn't it?

Very jealous of the time/money and facilities to do such a thing though.

The bike looks great on the first page. I wouldn't even have cleaned it. Why you'd want to strip it down and tart it up rather than ride it is beyond me.

I think he has worked long and hard to achieve pretty good results, so why knock him.

I would be happy with that level of finish on my riding bike, [but not on my musuem pieces.]

Dave. It must be perfick

I'm afraid that I only got as far as the first page. I stopped looking at the point where I saw the rear shock in the parts washer!

Yes, I agree, but I was interested as to what was next to come, but then was dismayed.

Dave, It must be right.

Thanks for posting, mallett. I'm not a fan of the bike, but enjoyed watching the attention to detail. Plus, I'm not a mechanic so every pull-apart bike thread helps me just that little bit more in my understanding of what is where.

Yeah, I love any sort of exploded bike thread. Nice pics too. Regardless of the quality of work it's a bit intrestin.

So, for thick me, what's in a parts washer that will damage the rear shock assembly? Is it like, a dishwasher for parts? Will it corrode bits or is it water ingress or summat?
