If it falls on an appropriate day for me put me down for The Wash to Ipswich way .

EDIT: In fact, if it really falls in an appropriate way, I'll come all the way to Dartford from The Wash (I'll make it a trip back to visit friends and family).

Lol - I was just sticking in route finding stuff to see what the distance from King's Lynn to Dartford all around the coast would be, and "Coast-Busters" is an appropriate term for that section, 'cos half of it is actually falling into the sea, a lot .

Depending on 'things', I'll join you for a day

Since I'm in Newbury, West Berkshire, I guess the first day Brighton - [?] would be the most sensible.

M-in-law died of ovarian cancer just over a year ago, so even if I can't ride with you, I'll still chip in a donation.

I'm in the bottom far right hand corner so I may well be up for the East Kent/East Sussex stretch too if your itinerary is suitable with work/family commitments.

Might be up for the Shiel Bridge to Inverness section.
Have never done that by bike yet and only some of it by car.

Thumbs up

Awww... you guys!

Wow.... and just like that there were 17 (!) "notes of interest". Fantasic. I wasn't expecting such a good response so thanks a bunch

Here's how it looks so far, but feel free to keep adding:

WiseBuddha- Hull/Humber bridge
el toro – Hul/Humber bridge
hawker- Hull and south
BananaMan- ?Wales
strag – essex coast
The Spin Doctor – Kent/Sussex
scottland – Kent/Sussex
sloth – Kent
?spliffyaid - NW coast (you mean Scotland right?)
Trunch – Severn bridge/South Wales
Bloo – Hull/Humber bridge
Pax – the Wash -> Ipswich/Dartford
Horse – Brighton
IsleOf – Ayreshire -> north
nik_the_brief – Kent/Sussex
?Kneerly Down - Shiel Bridge -> Inverness
?BigFella - Dornoch area

To Kyot: actcherly that's a good plan. I think I will head clockwise on the M25 to start so day 1 would now be the essex/kent/sussex and west.

Re the Lancs coast: it's nothing personal, just that I have a lot of miles to cover in a fixed amount of time. I don't know that area but form the maps it looks like I'd spend a lot of time snarled up in cities/towns. But mainly for the selfish reason that the bit of the trip I'm looking forward to most is the west coast of Scotland so this allows me to blat up the M6 and have a bit more time up there.

That said, regarding the route in certian areas- if folks with local knowledge are joining in I'm open to suggestions for route alterations that make it more interesting. What I can't do is make each section longer in time (miles are OK as long as the time required is not significatly more) as, obviously, if I do that for each section there's no way I'll get round the whole thing in the time I have.

I'll rejig the route based on the revised start and post up the approximate start/stop points day by day with the proposed dates: hopefull that'll help folks decide what they can commit to.

"Just giving" site to follow shortly.

That's wicked . Just looked at the calender, and I'm guessing the Norfolk coast to Dartford (about 250 miles) will be falling on your last day, a Saturday (24th)? If so, that's spot on for me and I will indeed come all the way to Dartford (aka the Happy Valley ) with you .

Depending on schedule, I am more than happy to join in from Scottish Border down to Scarborough.

If you want digs in Sunderland, let me know I can certainly put up two people with garage space for bikes
