It's generally considered to be about 50mm on 35mm film/full-frame dSLR, hence known as a 'standard' lens.
So that works out as around 30mm on a 1.6 crop camera for example.
Although apparently 43mm (on full frame) is actually more accurate.

Thanks for that.
I was looking at the view from our kitchen this morning, as shown below, and it occurred to me that I didn't have a true image of the view. I may have to go and have a play.
