Question Winter gloves

I'm trying to keep my hands warm and the cheap Lidl jobs I have aren't bad, but they weren't great this morning and soak up water if it rains so I'm looking for something to help or replace them.
I've looked at reviews and round the shops but almost all customer reviews seem to fall into two categories.
1. "They looked warm in the picture but it was 5 degrees today and my fingers got cold"
2. "They are really toasty, well recommended" - review posted in October.

I'm happy to use a liner but ideally I want something waterproof as squelchy gloves aren't nice, it doesn't matter if they get too warm as I have cooler gloves for mild weather.
Any ideas?
If you say silk liners I'm going to need some convincing, I'm not a great believer in the old tried and tested methods that worked for Scott in the Antarctic.

P.S. I'm on a budget with £30 being the most I can spend as I've just ordered a new rear mech.

Oxford ones seem pretty good. Also excellent flexibility etc.

Also Sealskinz do a nice pair that i've not tested but look very much up to the job.

I've only found i need warm gloves for first 10 mins then the body temp rises. So i'll wear teh Oxfords on the outside of my standard Specialized ones and away we go. Whip them off and into the back pocket when warmed up.

Superduke - Fairings are for Homos

That looks like just the thing and at a good price, thanks.
