Not Much To Do
Re: torrent sites
Go here to find what you are looking for Torrents Search Engine
Follow the links till you get to a page that says 'download torrent'
Right click and copy
Go to utorrent and press Ctrl 'U' press enter wait for the next bit to pop up and press enter again.
And away it will go

Install uTorrent, read the help to ensure you have your chosen port open and encrypted. Best to disable DHT.
Install PeerBlock unless you're happy with 'the man' knowing what you're downloading.
Search Isohunt for whatever you need, sort it by the 'seeds' column and pick one which has lots of '+' ratings. Read the comments! Don't download anything in .rar format, it'll invariably be a password protected fake. Download the .torrent file, double click it, uTorrent should open and the download should start. Keep sharing even after your download has finished, at least until you reach a ration of 1.

With Utorrent if you double click 'download torrent' on the search site Utorrent will open automatically.

I'm a Vuze man myself, you can search for torrents and download directly from within the app.
Screwd.

As a matter of interest what if you don't keep sharing and have a smaller ratio? Does it throttle you?

Really does know it all

some sites - not afaik, isohunt - will block your downloading of .torrent files if you don't maintain a ratio above 1. Most sites don't monitor your ratio... but I guess it's polite to try to maintain a ratio above 1...

If you have a static IP address then potentially it could get added to a list of bad addresses and see you struggle to make good connections. In reality though, nothing happens except that the torrent will eventually die as everyone takes more than they share.
And yeah, some sites do insist on a minimum share ratio, not that it matters if they're free and you don't mind creating a new account for each download.

Thanks, I didn't realise it wasn't supported anymore.

I might be wrong on that; it may be that the developers of PeerBlock took the open source code from the stalled PeerGuardian2 project and did their own thing. The PG2 developers could have restarted PG2 after the offshoot and the two projects could be developing in parallel, I don't know. The PG2 forums do (or did when I last looked) recommend people switch to PeerBlock though.
