For my sins I have been forced into a role that means I have to do various client reports on behalf of On our standard reports there are various points where we enter client name, adviser name, etc. I'd quite like to automate this process, to I have used a word template in the past that did just that, asks for a form to be filled in before populating the document, but I can't find it. Can anyone help? Cheers |

Autotext, never really used it before so I can't be much help but I think it will do what you want although it will take a fair amount of setting up.

Unfortunately AutoText only provides a mechanism to automatically enter the same information every time, anywhere you like in any document. Assuming that the requirement is a form/report for which there is some information that will be different every time but in the same place then the answer is to use Fill-in fields: Create the word Template with your standard text/layout that will be the same in every report. Add the fill-in fields, do this: 1. Position the cursor where you want the the field. 2. Press CTRL+F9. The field braces ({ }) will appear in the document. 3. Type: FILLIN "fieldname" where fieldname is the instruction that you want word to prompt with. Save the document/template as a template To use: Create a new document based on the template: Word creates a new document, and automatically searches for all the fill-in fields in the document, and displays the prompt for all the fields, I believe in the sequence in which they appear in the document. (I'm not sure if there is a way to force the order another way, but that may not be important). |

There's a mail merge wizard on most recent versions of word, it taught me how to do it and is pretty simple to use.
