Default Do digital photo frames come in different height-width ratios?

The missus has just bought one and it cuts the heads off photos, or, on the other 'size' in the menu, the photos are correct height wise, but there are black/blank columns each side of the picture which looks shit.

Its supposed to be a present for the her grandparents, but i think it is wank.

Are we missing something obvious?

Cheers

the one I bought mrs moth lets you format the pictures so that they fit the frame. I'm buggered if I can remember how I did it though

It works though. Clever moth

You should be able to change the resolution/pic size to match that of the photoframe.
oh and wrong forum btw..should be in technology/gadgets or images/pics

'Format' sounds a lot like 'distort' or 'crop'.

Internet research shows that most DPF in the <£90 category use an aspect ratio of 16.9.

Which is handy when digital cameras take photos with a ratio of 4:3, genius!

I think this one will be going back and one of that is actually the right size will be purchased.

Hilariously, Currys, PC World, Comet etc. etc. have not included the aspect ratio in any of the details of any of their cameras. How helpful!

There are ways around it alright, but surely the easiest way would be for manufacturers to make frames the same shape as photos?

I can't be arsed to check TBH, but the 1000 or so pictures on the memory stick that hangs out the back of ours seemed OK last time I looked.

maybe try a proper brand name like HP.

they use 4:3

HP 10" Digital Photoframe Wood Frame - DF1000-11 on eBay (end time 19-Jul-09 13:24:46 BST)

(cheaper HP one here. It IS also 4:3 (just checked))

In the menus, see if you can set it to not distort and not crop - it should then show the whole pic - though, as it doesn't fit the shape of the frame, you will get the excess space filled with some type of border.

I've yet to see a decent one, tbh - I bought one last year, but the actual image quality you get from them is proper shit - so shit it went back.

They're a top idea, but they need to improve...

I agree entirely

We have had it with the border down each side, but that looks shit, as shit as a traditional photograph that is in a frame that is clearly the wrong shape. Which of course is what is happened here, only 'digitally'

What a crock of shit, presumably 16:9 LCDs are cheaper to produce or something?

You could always crop all the shots you want on it to the format of the frame...depending if you have enough background on the images to sacrifice.
