need pictures but it sounds like either. 1) the pads aren't in right 2) the caliper carrier is not in right.... either is not good.... but really need pics of your BRAKE... |

I had exactly the same problem on my WR450. Different years of Yam had different diameter brake discs. Try putting the disc off your enduro back wheel onto your SM back wheel and see if that fixes it. |

hi, cheers for your reply. the pads are in correctly as far as i can tell. and i checked the carrier and there isn't any other way it can mount, with it being the back break. i've got pics to show you guys. just got to figure out how .![]() ![]() |

brake - a device for slowing you down, usually attached to a wheel break - to damage something or stop a paticular activity i.e. we will take a break looks like you have the wrong size disk - did it come with a SM wheel what you have stuck on the bike? if the wheels were part of a kit there may be a caliper hanger missing? |

doh! didn't notice i put that. anywho... the wheels came on the bike, it may be the same disc that fits on the off-road wheels but im not 100% sure. is there normaly a rear caliper hanger? (my 1st SuMo if you can't tell )can i buy an 'over sized' disc to take up the gap? cheers, dudeskin |

I guess it would be one possible solution to your problem, but you'd have to get a custom fabricated bracket made up - which would then probably have to relocate the caliper further round the disc as well as further out - cos of the clearance issues of fitting the bracket in there as well. And then you'd probably have to get a new rear brake line made up too. Basically it's not the way to go. Get a tape and measure the diameter of both your original brake disc on your enduro wheels, and the one on your SM wheels. If they're not the same, you can either use the same brake disc on both wheels - which isn't a bad idea anyway if you're not planning on changing the pads each time you change wheels (the pads will bed in to the disc as each disc will never be perfectly flat) - or you can just get another standard rear brake disc to suit your bike and a new pair of pads to go with it. | |

I would guess he bought the bike with the wrong diameter disc fitted to start with - maybe looks like it from the disc wear pattern ...

Looks like you need a rear disc off a later WR/YZ. The early 400's had a smaller disc. Thought you had DRZ wheels for a second, as they drop straight in, yet have the smaller disc, but the disc is deffo a yam one, as the Suzuki one is fitted with csk allen bolts. |
