Its a better plan than the alternatives, imho.
Nahh.. rucksacs make very good back protectors.

Losses from any zipper are normally avoided during the essential pre-flight gear-up and routine checklist. With me it's so engrained its a ritual.

Lost a good friend to this sort of accident. I cringe whenever I see a loose tailpack. I personally wouldn't touch them with a bargepole unless they had a secure under seat/tailunit strap and even then I'd be constantly checking it.

On a lighter note, I'm sure BladeriderEssex will be along shortly to own up to scattering half his wardrobe across the A14 (I think)

Right, you asked for it. Not taking this subject seriously enough, eh? From another place (sorry ), a discussion on the dangers associated with carrying objects while riding a motorcycle.

A11 actually and it was a little more than half my gear that day! Made my day out at Snetterton interesting with only 1 shoe!

Decent gloves and helmot though, he's got his priorities right!

How did he load it up without getting rust and soot all over those cream keks? I've only got to wear light keks for 5 minutes to get a stain on em. even less sometimes if I need a Jimmy!

Or the guy I knew who had a can of WD40 in a throwover pannier.

Or, more accurately: 'throwover and rest against a hot exhaust sytem'.

Bang!

Assorted clothing that had been packed nin the same pannier subsequently spread along the motorway . . .

Couple of years ago one of the guys on our trip to the NW200 got a ticket for carrying an unsafe load after his panniers caught fire on his high level exhaust!

It's quite feasible to get the same sort of landing from a bike, and it will typically be against a harder surface than a field.

Ho hum ? anyone for taking up golf ? No. didn't think so - all these are avoidable with a little forethought and common sense.

And bearing in mind that some suits actually contain a 'phone' pocket, I've often wondered why there isn't armour between the pocket and the rider . . . ?

Hmm, mine even has phone written on it! As it happens I can vouch for the extra protection a wallet in the thigh pocket of a rainsuit gives, having slid twenty yards on mine without a scratch!

Does rather bring up the whole issue of why everyone seems to obsess about armour on the back and forget the front entirely. I did look around for front armour but couldn't see anything other than some rather unwieldy looking Knox stuff.

Saw these guys up at the ski show last year. Some pretty funky lightweight gear.
