Default London Motorcycle Video

I'd not heard of this until a few days ago, but it refers to some of the visual perception issues we've talked about.

Enjoy

But easier to see here:

I know one of the two psychologists who's work was the basis of it (no, they didn''t invent 'looming')

care to expand on the "96% think smaller objects take longer to reach you" assertion?

Nope. You'll have to look it up

OK, if I see the guy I'll ask But he didn't have direct input to the ad. - first he knew was another psychologist saying "Hey look!"

I wonder if it is going to be/was successful getting it's message across? As it is a bit disconnected from reality isn't it?

Posted a link to this video elsewhere and a mate of mine (and a Quasar owner) writes

Clever but a waste of time and money. You can't teach idiots to 'think'.

There is a problem with all the ads that show a bike bouncing off a car. It reinforces the idea that hitting a bike will not really hurt you, the car driver. So fundamentally you'll be ok.

The only campaign that would work for me would be one that says 'it'll hurt you too".
Which is kinda what I was wondering about up there. /\

Although your mate's a bit late with that one

In Dave ?'s column in Motorcyle Weekly many moons ago he suggested that we needed a few riders really dedicated to the cause, and when a car emerged in front of them they headed straight for the driver.

His guess was about 3 driver fatalities in quick succesion and word would start to get around.

I think (probably on Vd) I suggested the 'think bike' ad should be re-made with an alternative ending along those lines . . .

Thames Valley police had a real one like that, fatal for driver and rider

To quote one of the coppers: "If the car'd still had doors, you could have shut the bike inside"

Speedo on the bike was jammed at 90 in the impact, and it left a long rear-tyre skid mark up to impact.

Wasn't it established that it wasn't mocked up?

I agree with Voyager's mate about the other vid. It shows the car (and bike) more or less intact from a 30-ish mph impact.

It would have been far better with the rider going clean over the car and the bike ploughing into the door of the car causing flying glass injuries and possibly a breakage or two to the driver.

In fact, something along the lines of those Irish boy-racer videos would be grand.

IIRC the claim was that the bike hit the car doing 130mph.
The bike would have come apart at that speed, but there's no significant damage from the tank back. Who knows about the car. Cut in two, rolled over?? I don't know, I'm not an expert but it was just far too neatly fitted together.

The claims are that the bike was doing over 150mph, the photos from the scene show the car on its roof. I'm pretty sure I've got the photos and the claims embedded in a presentation somewhere, as I've definitely used it to talk about see-decide-react times and the potential of injury to car occupants in bike crashes. I'll see if I can find them and verify the source.
