They really ought to attach a collar with forward facing lamps (and he needs a special hi-intensity red sphincter light)

He's on a cruise right now, leaving us to get on with some work in his absence.

Genuine question btw, and just to let you know I am neither for or against for various reasons.

OK. (The very short version)
1. The idea that people can be seen 'better' by others when wearing one is (as far as I have been able to tell) totally unproven.
This leads to
2. Risk Compensation. Once you are told you will be seen 'better' you will tend to believe it to be true and behave in a way that might put you at more risk.
Conclusion
3. I believe you will actually be 'safer' if you understand that you may not have been seen. At all.

Thank you for the answer. I happen to agree pretty much, although I am of the opinion (I think) that if it does help then it has to be a good thing - although it's not my thing but each to their own. Although relying on being seen because you are wearing it is pretty dumb, and yes, I ride like no one has seen me at all and think this is the best attitude to have to riding.

Re: November's Hi-Viz Thread :)
Frankly, I'd be surprised if a beermat-eating dog would "risk compensate" in the pub because he had a yellow jacket on.

...only because it's been banged on about in here [and over there] zillions of times.

Couldn't quite see the connection between a beer mat chewing dog and day-glo jacket either... other than it's some sort of punishment.
