Default East Suffolk Trail Ride, 27th December 2008

December 27th (I know it's the same day as Adam's ride but it's my only free day over Xmas), startpoint Ipswich, 10:00 start point to be determined depending on whether people need parking. Ride will consist of some fairly easy Byways up towards Walberswick and then back by the same route, some of these have deepish sand and there will be some mud, but there are no rocks or big hills and definitely no chalk, should be suitable for beginners and big bikes.

Just had a confirmation from my mate - well as much of a confirmation as you can have with a young family Put me down as a definite though.

Sorry if its sucking eggs time, but please check the legality of the trails before you go. A lot of the trails up that way were RUPPs and as such are now Restricted Byways. The status of these is very dodgy indeed. Best to check with your local TRF ROW officer before hand if you aren't certain.

That's okay, all the trails I'm intending to use are byways apart from a the UCR that runs round the back of Minsmere, and AFAIK this has vehicular rights. Interestingly there's a TRO on the former RUPP that runs from the north car park to the south car park on Sutton Common.

Of course you can, it's all pretty easy going. Do you need somewhere to park a van/car, I'm asking as it makes a difference to where we start from.

I'll definitely be riding over. I'm happy to meet at yours, the car park at the Golf, or wherever's easiest. I know the area very well - I used to pass there on the way to work for years.

I must go and dig out my OS maps and see if I can work out the route beforehand - the bike's off the road at the moment (I'm getting the springers fettled) so it'll give me something to do.

Let me guess, you used to work for BT.

The route is fairly simple, byway from Rushmere to Playford, over to Sutton Common and ride all the byways there, then out to Thorpeness and ride the byway to Sizewell, round the back of Minsmere and then the Byway towards Walberswick. There used to be loads more when RUPPs were sort of legal (though I was told by the TRF that none of the ones on Sutton Common had much in the way of supporting evidence).

I'll think up a start place where you can park the van without it bothering anyone.
