Default Wr250f

The newer one with the ally frame.
Anyone got one/had one/had any experience of one?

Reckon they would cope with my more than ample arse on it?
I'm toying with the idea of a new bike and am liking WRs.
I love the power of my 450 but want something a bit lighter for when the going gets a bit tough.
Reckon a li'l twofiddy would cope hauling me up hills?

Is there much/any difference between the engine in the newer ones and the bikes Tomcat and Jimbo have or is the frame the only real difference?

I think the power will be adequate, can't say about the rest. Husky TE250 comes fully road legal from the shop.

it'll pull you about no worries...yes it might lack a tad of the bottom end of the 450 but in the real wordl the abiloty to open it up without it biting is worth more than a few BHP...
the worst place any of the 250's suffer is the road sections....so as long as you can cope with that (and it aint that bad) it'll be fine.
Big hill wise...I dunno how big your hills are doon there, but you'd not even tell the diff except on the stoopid trials type hills....
weight wise..as you know, more like a mountian bike !

Yeah I get it ta.
It's one of the reasons I am interested in it.
Unfortunately they didn't do a "fat bloke up a steep hill test"

It's not lack of power that bothers me as much as bottom end torque, which is where I tend to ride except on the faster lanes around the plain.
I can't see top end power being an issue at all. I tend to bimble on the road for a breather anyhow.

the most you'll have to do is carry a bit more engine rpm and not "lug" the motor as much, I'd ridden WR 2.5 and YZ 2.5 and TBH theres little difference from them to an older WR400, the most noticable was not being able to take it down to tickover then pull strongly...BUT having said all that we aren't talking 10,000 rpm either...just more than a 450 I think you'd quickly get used to it no worries

Bank manger I can't help with mate...soz

I would like to run some more enduros and large is the last thing that helps there.
You can't get much larger than a BMW R1200GSA mind.

Funners is on the money. The newer ones are a slight improvement in various ways but the basic package is the same. It didn't need changing much because it was already good. As for the 'fat bloke on a hill' test mine's pulled me up everything so far despite my lack of skill - the bike isn't underpowered though you may have to get used to keeping the motor spinning a bit more than on a grunty 450. It's not a problem though. Have a play on mine, just return it clean and in one piece

Cheers Des.
I had a quick spin on Jim's, but it was only along a straight flat track.
Seemed pretty good tho.

have you considered the CRF 250 x ?

my brother has one and its blooody good - doesnt struggle on road sections (i have a ktm450 and most of our friends have 525's)

is less tiring off road and lighter to pick up.

after a couple of hours on it i am considering one for enduro racing next year - i weigh 15 stone.

Yeah I have. The TBM group test kinda put me off tbh.

The trouble with enduro bikes is you can't get test rides of them like you can road bikes.

Lots.

Basically it's so basic it doesn't even have a speedo.
It's loads more nimble but roughly 20% down on power compared to the WR, EXC and TE 250s.

It did however "win" despite all the testers bar the author rating it.
Stable and easy to ride, but wont excite being the general consensus.
