Whats a normal format of the day(scru/practice/race)?
How long is a normal race(10 laps /10mins)?
How competant a rider do you need to be to even think about it?
DO they run novice only races/mixed ability?
Any known true novice friendly clubs(based on slower riders out to enjoy the experiance rather than youngest who are better now than ill ever be) in the midlands/east anglia area?
I did one having not ever done anything like it before on my 200 enduro bike
format was as you say and in terms of ability I'd say I was as green as they come having never jumped a motorbike before (figured I'd go the same speed as everyone else and work it out as i went along)
3 15 min races and I really enjoyed it, went from very shy and mindful to let faster riders through to a adrenaline fuelled 'ha in your face psycho' as I went round crashed riders, it was quite strange but very intoxicating feeling.
alarmingly I'd been entered into the seniors and not the juniors but a now show meant I could ride in the more appropriate class
thoroughly enjoyed it and didnt die or anything (did break a bone in my foot from a heavy landing though)
give it a go and find out for yourself is my advice (though I prefer enduro)

what club?venue?
Enduro--great untill you get to trees and even worse tree roots--not very good at those bits they scare me
I can't speak for adult MX but my son has been doing schoolboys for 5 years, moving up from small wheel 85 to big wheel and for the last couple of years schoolboy 125 (250F allowed). He's got one more year in the schoolboys then would have to move up to the adults (age 18+) if he carries on, however he's getting more into enduro as MX is pretty intense and it really is a young man's sport. The guys who do it to international level are superhuman and even the "normal" adults who ride club events have to be pretty damn fearless and fit. Some races are 40 minutes long. I can't imagine that. Our club runs both "expert" (mad kids over 1 and "over 35" (the dads race ) classes every meeting with a fair spread of ability in both.
To give you some idea of how our meetings run http://sssc-mx.co.uk signing on and scrutineering are from 8.00 to 9.30. Scruting is fairly basic but the guys know what to look for and often pick up on stuff the riders miss - loose bearings/spokes/parts etc. Enduro bikes can be used but must have stands and lights removed. However they aren't really suitable as the suspension on MX bikes is generally stiffer to cope with the big jumps.
10.00 practice, in groups, everyone gets 3 laps.
Races, again by class, typically 40 riders on a grid and all go together when the gate drops (15 second board, int0 2nd gear.... 5 seconds board hold engine wide open on limiter and watch the gate which can go between 1 and 5 seconds). Drop the clutch and spin away hitting 3rd before the madness of the 1st corner
Our races are 10 minutes plus a lap, and there are 3 blocks of racing per day. Hence you get practice plus 3 races.
Costs are very modest especially compared to road racing - annual club membership plus YMSA licence about £50, entry fees £32 per meeting. There's no need to be a parent to ride though unsurprisingly most adult riders are. It's a nice family atmosphere with little of the twattishness that sometimes goes on at adult MX meetings.
If you don't find an adult club to ride with consider coming along to Mildenhall in February when we'll hold our 2 "Winter Series" meetings. You can join as a day member and there will probably be available spaces on the grid.
Here's a couple of the Stevenage races, seen from the rider's viewpoint
I think I saw you riding once on one of Adams green lane runs earlier last year? Based on that short outing I think you'd be fine, you can borrow my technique of shutting my eyes for the scary bits

Not me i was going to one approx a year ago --and adam stood me up (cancelled it)
looking at the vids--my eyes would be closed all the time
Have a look at the TBEC site: Welcome to TBEC - they are a bit less full-on than some enduro clubs and grade the events by degrees of difficulty so if need be you can choose which you do.
