But i have done h&h*
I wanted(scared off now by the vids)to do one mx race to see what it was like.
The only reason i have not come last in H &h is i tend to pass only riders who are broken down or lying next to a tree / ditch
so the design dont quite work*
* only done for your benefit as i know you like them -dont actually bear any relevance to my answer![]()
tc first post was spot on which i suitably thanked him for,his second was referance enduro, which thanks to mainly YOUR post a year ago i have completed several times and know the ropes.
i was pulling your leg with the![]()
Parts of most courses scare me road/track or field based
(probably why i am no good at any of them)but i still cant resist having a go.
However, i am talking pure mx as it is the only one i have not tried in a competitive sense--however whilst i dont mind being a backmarker i wanted to understand how it worked and not to be a liability to other racers(as i have shared many a session on relative easy mx tracks) and i understand how good most/all are compared to me-so i was seeking advice on an easy/novice friendly MXtrack/club-if in deed such a thing exists.
so i could have one mxrace without annoying anyone.
I haven't raced mx for over twenty years, but still know a few who do.
the general format is;
sign on
scrutineering
practice
three blocks of racing
I would advise you to pop along to a local event and watch. Events are listed in the back of trials and motocross news, phone the club before the event and explain that you want to get involved. If you can go the night before and camp, then you can get a chance to talk with people before it gets busy.

I think the key points are to turn up in a van that's mainly used for some trade, smoke fags and crack on a lot before clearing the whole tabletop on a CR250/500 hybrid. Otherwise you're nothing.
It's mainly about the van and the cracking though.
Ah, OK, didn't realise you'd done H&H. You should be capable enough to do the race then, maybe not expecting to win though
I presume you've ridden some MX practice tracks? If you're Midlands/East Anglia you have plenty of choice - here's a few:
Wild Tracks (Chippenham) - sandy, gnarly
Mildenhall - sandy, not quite as gnarly
Washbrook Farm - sandy, not too hard, no big jumps
Weedon - natural farmland circuit, clay/hardpack, no big jumps
Whaddon - as Weedon, also used a part of a H&H course
Mepal - DEEP sand
Kings Lynn - short/twisty, clay/hardpack, not too jumpy
If you do a practice day you should ge a fair idea how you're likely to stack up in a race. If you can ride a 20 minute session without stopping you'll be OK, and probably not finish last either!
As I suggested before, you could come to Mildenhall to watch the first SSSC Winter Series meeting next Feb, if you liike it enter the second one later the same month as a day member.
Thankyou,i think i will do just that and go to mildenhall(where is it?)and watch the first one,and see if i am capable of doing the 2nd.
Washbrooke is definately on the list(maybe this saturday) nearly went thier 2 weeks ago but went to apex, which i have been before a few times in the dry(which was not too bad)tough in the wet though.
I live literally 2 mins from weedon-i have been in thier to look once(very wierd as you drive through the gate-put me off a bit)so have tended to go to dodford and blisworth-both only 5 mins away for me--so yes spoilt for choice,as adstone(enduroland)is less than 10 mins as well
I think i have done whaddon mx with enduroland--i was ok but struggled on the jump which falls away on landing(i dont seem to like that type)or anything going steeply down hill.Thats why that foxhills vid was so
I watched the weedon one last night, as you say not to bad that one so will look for any meets thier as well-as its easy for me to go and practice/ learn-prior to any race.
Many thanks for ALL the replies, more than helpful .
ps/tc--would not expect to win if i was the only entrant![]()
Weedon practices most Sundays I think. You stop at the gate and pay the farmer's wife, then drive in. It's a nice track but as with most, always phone first as some don't ride in bad weather to save the track getting too badly torn up. 01327 830200
The other one is Mildenhall which, like Chippenham, is open every weekend and being sandy rides fairly OK even when wet.

Don't mind the jumps and step-downs, you can roll them until/if you want to speed it upDon't ask how I know

Finally made it to washbrooke today--very nice set up and friendly owners--track has a good layout ,but it was very wet(my first time on a sand track)lots of people falling off-i only managed to come off once
more of a tipple over really
Unless the two people who were on proper road traileys enter a race-pretty certain i would come last,by a fair way.
Weedon tomorrow (maybe)<img src="http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...lts/ADU197.jpg">

As a general rule if you can keep going the whole race you won't come last![]()
Do you specifically want to do MX? If you just want to see what its like to compete off-road, you could consider a Hare and Hounds first? You can go as fast as you feel comfortable with.
Avoid this though - done it a couple of times and is pretty hard work![]()
