    Default Touring across Canada

Can anybody recommend to me a Motorbike rental dealer in either Vancouver or the west coast of Canada (Quebec or Montreal?). We want to pick up two tourers and spend about a month on a leisurely ride across Canada.

We would want to pick up on one coast and drop off at the other.

Another option would be perhaps to buy two used bikes and then sell at the other end. I guess this would work out cheaper than rental?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You're best asking this on The HUBB

Ot better still, go to the 10TH Lumb Farm Ripley Meeting 2010 - The HUBB and ask there

I'd love to do something like this, so if you get there remember to write up a ride report/blog with plenty of pics!!!

I think the buying a bike option would be better / cheaper. Be advised though, when I lived there, prices were slightly less than if not comparable to the UK.
I'd recommend getting something with the biggest, fattest couch-like seat though - a Goldwing or similar. Canada is so vast, that we thought nothing of driving 5 hours for a night out. Although good to experience for a while, the roads in Alberta get tedious as they are so straight and there isn't really much to see but prairie either side.

PM Dirtybill, he'll be able to advise as I'm sure he lives in BC

Buying is certainly the better option but you'll need to consider what's involved with registering the bike – easy via a dealer [anything for a sale, but could prove troublesome if you dont have a resident address]. One way around this would be to befriend a Canadian... you'd be surprised – many fellow riders will help you here. Insurance is easy to arrange and very cheap... I can give you contact details but you'll find them on the HUBB at Horizons Unlimited..

ahhh, hang on... here we go: contact Gail at gailg@motorcycleservices.com. Superb service everytime & I've used them 4 times now.

The only drawback with the buying to sell on later route, if indeed it is a drawback at all, is that you'll have such a fantastic time you'll want to keep the bike and return year after year.

Enjoy. I've had the ride of a lifetime over there and am returning again this summer.

    Hear, hear!

We're on our way back for our third year. This time we're planning to ride around the Great Lakes, so we'll be doing a bit of Ontario.

Our motorcycle dealer is in Wisconsin, so northern USA rather than Canada, but they'll ship bikes anywhere, and pick them up too. You might like to have a chat with them: Cycles Plus Inc., Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Goldwing, wing, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Used Motorcycles, Eton America, KYMCO, ATV, motorcycle, dealer, sales, pre-owned, used, trailer, go-kart, Carter, Triton

They store bikes very cheaply, too.
