Default LD lines new ferry

LD lines are going to be running a new fast cat ferry to Le Havre from next March and are offering a 10% discount for early bookings...fares seem to be around the £45 to £60 mark for a bike and rider and the crossing is down to 3 1/2 hrs.. ( daytime sailings too)

3.5 hrs is a lot, Dover Calais 40 mins in the tunnel 1.5 hrs Calais Le havre by road
Just checked the price and and a single in December in the car is 130 euros!
That's nearly 4 times what P+O want for Calais Dover I can never see the point of the long ferry crossings, expensive and slow!

Depends where you live and where you're going the other end.

I live 5 minutes from Portsmouth Feryport and nearly 2 hrs ( more at ;eak times from Dover..then there is the corresponding ride down the other side to end up where I want to be.. 3 1/2 hrs is nothing , the usual overnighter is more like 9 hrs.... I dont know how you checked a December single when the service doesn't begin until 26th March

I have checked for the bike and at £46 return around easter its very comparable with a Dover crossing...

PS wasn't it you that advocated taking the ferry to Bilbao instead of riding down??

Correction: Calais - Le Havre is 170 miles, 2hr 55m according to my GPS.

Living in the Midlands, Dover is a shite place to get to; Portsmouth is a gentle 2hr trundle. Almost any destination in France that I regularly go to is far easier from Le Havre.

I shall be trying this new service in the summer, no doubt, and will report back.

I just put the dates in and that's the price it came up with. I'm the one who said that the long crossing to Spain was like spending 30 hours in a motorway service station, so no, not an advocate.
I just prefer riding or driving to feeling sick on a ferry

Seems slow?
Poole to Cherbourg on Brittany Ferries Seacat is nice and nippy in the Summer, abour 2 1/4 hours IIRC. Fewer tolls to pay on that side of France when heading south too.

From High Wycombe it's not so different to go Dover or Portsmouth. So that choice depends on where in France we are heading to.

But the chunnel is great with a low trouble 30 min crossing. Rather that than ferry if going from Dover.

Looks like a good service, I regularly use LD-Lines in fact have done 3 trips since sept already and booked one for the xmas period, always found them reasonable - prefer a night crossig though coming into france, allows you to have a beer and get some sleep before arriving fresh and ready for the ride south at 08:00 gives you a full days ride and saves the cost of a hotel, B&B part way down
