It's off a black cab, apparently.

He's actually replaced it since those pices were taken (March & June this year respectively) but is having probs with the new one - because it's a proper bike tyre it's marginally fatter and is therefore touching the chain, which has rubbed a lovely criss-cross pattern into the sidewall!

I actually think it looks fine. I too am on the look out for a shonker and I'd have been dead pleased with that!

Now hammerite it and make it look semi-presentable.

OK sorry. I'm really just subliminally advertising the plumber.

Interesting thread. I'm thinking of getting one. It could be the weapon of choice in the credit crunch wilderness years to come

One thing that bothers me is whether there any accepted levels of behaviour towards shonkers? For example if it catches fire are you allowed to put it out? What happens if you discover you actually like the bike? & also how do you cope with the embarrassment if someone steals it?

Thanks

IB

A true shonker is unstealable (ie, who in their wrong minds ever would!!)

Re fires - putting it out is acceptable, if only that you get back on and continue to ride it after any repairs are made with baling twine & spit. Duct tape is allowed in exceptional circumstances (eg holes burnt in tyres).

My thoughts as well, but how would you cope with the shame?

Understood. On that basis some of the bikes posted appear to be too good to qualify. I think a shonkometer would help.

It's not the shame of having it stolen you need to worry about, it's the worry that the polis might find it before the insurance pays out....
