Thumbs up So, about the 848 being unreliable and stuff...

It's actually not and I've had to apologise to it

After our little trip, I got the chance to take the Ducati in for a check up at Cornerspeed yesterday. Plugged the diagnostics in and it shows two faults, one with the Lambda sensor and one with the exhaust valve. So off Nelly goes, takes off the exhaust valve, checks connections, puts it back together, but still the faults show and it doesn't want to start.

Next thing, the bike shuts down completely and takes the diagnostics box with it. Well, the box is connected directly below the battery, so that can be the only culprit He takes the cover off and the positive terminal bolt is barely still in the hole. Unbelieveable and I feel stupid for not checking it. Just that with everything working and it starting eventually, I figured the battery must be fine...I won't make assumptions with it again.

So all the panic about the wet weather breaking it was unfounded...the water didn't do it any harm at all My faith is restored. Put the fairing back on it and had a good thrash round the roads, bumped into a couple of mates at the local bike shop and went for a run up round Chatsworth House/Matlock way, which was packed, but still, I love my bike and it is reliable after all, yay!

Oh my, that is embarrassing. I had a similar thing happen with the Norton. I had just retrieived it form having the electriacal system looked at and I was riding along and it just died. It was getting on to evening and turning dark. I got so discouraged that I just parked it behind a wall and left it till morning, thinking that it is true what they say about old Brit bikes and Lucas the Prince of Darkness. The next day I went back to give things a look see and low and behold, a coil wire had come off. Stupid simple fix that I could have done the evening before had I just steeped through the process instead of jumping to conclusions.
Enjoyify your Duc.

Always look at the last thing you did - because that will be the thing that was not done right.

Who didn't connect the battery properly and why?

The only people that have touched the battery connections are the shop that I bought it from. They fitted an optimate lead for it, which I didn't ask for, but they do anyway in the hope you'll buy a charger from them.

I'm not at all surprised, they're a bunch of useless sods anyway, it's not the only thing they missed/messed up prepping mine and a few other's Ducati's

I wouldnt feel too bad - its a ducati, water and electrics would have been my first guess. Someone not screwing the battery terminal on would not have been that high on the list TBH.

I remember reading click whirr click and turning it on and off and thinking sounds like a loose earth to me. Glad it wasn't anything major anyway.

Wonder about my avatar? CLick this www.freeschapelle.net/

Why apologise ? it's no more than you should expect from a new bike...reliability, it really should be more important than where the badge comes in some shit cool list.....

Aye right!

I had the same thing happen to me on my 900SL years ago, I've always found with Ducati's that checking the connections every so often is a good thing the vibes do have a habit of loosing things off.
