Had one of these as a courtesy bike today whilst my GS was in for "enhancements" ![]() First impressions were....Small...nice sound...err SMALL.... it's a physically small bike, light (well seemed it after the Adv), nice dash layout but after my bike there seemed to be nothing at the front at all. first noticable thing was a nice light cltuch and it seemd plenty willing enough at the TLGP... the motor spins up nicely and it sounds nice on the totally std exhaust. The open road showed up the total lack of fairing, OK I'm used to the barn door on mine but even so, 100mph and you knew you were doing it, 80mph seemed a happy compromise, fastest seen was 110mph and that was well...just hard hard work TBH it was like being 17 again...head by the clocks and throttle stop being bent to the limit! ![]() The 650 GS is conventionally sprung at the front and after 2months on mine it seemed VERY strange the front diving for the floor when I braked ![]() It was also very softly sprung, it pissed down half way home and even in the wet it felt very confidnece inspiring, as you just got the impression you could just stamp your foot down hard and lift it up if it slid anywhere.. Fuel computer says 68 MPG, kinda backed up by the lack of fuel I had to put in it, You had to plan overtakes a bit more (pretty much as per any smaller bike) but on the whole even at higher speeds there was plenty of grunt, it pulled from low down as well, just off tickover in fact and this I think contribted to it ease of riding... Over all...a nice bike, much nicer to ride than the R 1200 R I had last time, inspite of being slower, to me at least a nice Urban bike... I'd not however care to travel much of a distance on it due to the lack of weather protection of any kind.... after a day on it..the Adv now feels ferkin massive again ! |
