I plan never to drop my Pan. I have enough trouble getting it onto the centre stand with a full tank of petrol

The 1300 will be on my list when I come to replace this one but there's at least another 40,000 in this engine, surely? I mean it's only done 60,000 or so miles.

If you do borrow the GS, you may be converted to the darkside and get yourself an R 1150/1200 RT or something when you replace.

I have owned, and enjoyed, a BMW motorised bicycle previously and even looked at a GS1150 as a company vehicle. They laughed when I told them my monthly mileage and said that if I cut it by 75% they'd think about a quote (and I wasn't doing monster miles then), so I went away never to darken the doors of a BMW dealership since.

So lets see, I like owning a Honda tourer and would happily own a BMW. I'm a terminal case, aren't I?

I test rode a brand new R1200RT and bought a 6 year old Pan. The pan is silky smoooth, pulls like a train and feels like you can throw it around like a sportsbike. The BMW was a tractor.

Update on the alternator - it will be with a specialist Honda garage in Salisbury today, with a reconditioned alternator I sourced myself and should be back in my hands on Saturday. Turned into as bit of an epic this one!

Still hasn't spoiled my enjoyment of the bike though.
SJS? Do say hello. They really, really do know their Pans.

I have to say I do also find the ST1100 superior to the R1200RT, despite how much older the design is.

I don't see the connection between an old bike requiring a repair and new(ish) Ducati's not working properly from the showroom.

Being a top cock, you'll no doubt be able to explain.

in much the same way that one faulty new bike does not render every machine a wonky time bomb..?

I am a top cock though.

Is she? What's wrong with it?

CBA to search Grib & Ducati to be honest, it's take me ages to wade through.

It's cutting out now and again.

....it might just be a quick plug in the computer at the service centre and get it fixed. It might stop doing it before then, you can never tell with these bikes!
