Cool Life with a Ducati 848

Urr, so I know I said tomorrow and everything, but the dealers called and said it was ready at lunchtime, so I had to go and collect it

First impressions;

In town - hot, 1st gear quite tall
In the open - lovely, running in sucks, it wants to rev
New brakes - terrifying!
Freshly bedded in brakes - awesome!
Gearbox - typical Ducati, sometimes a gear, sometimes not a gear, not helped by ....
Levers - all need adjusting, not comfy yet
Mirrors - useless
Clutch - wet, no rattle
Traffic today - how much? Bloody lorries....
Chicken strips - require work

So I've only been out for about half an hour, round some local roads. Unfortunately mainly in/near town, so I've been pootling round in a not entirely comfortable fashion. Bit wobbly to begin with, but it's soon starting to make sense It can only be revved up to 6K at the moment, so it's really straining to get going. It starts making bigger air box noises just as you get up there, so I'm guessing it's the start of it's 'happy place'. The clocks are nice and easy so far, simple to use and easy to read on the move. No fuel guage, but got two trips to work it out with. It seems fairly noisy even with the standard cans on and you get a bit of intake growl too, which I like in a bike.
Took a few piccies, I'll try and update this with some more stuff as and when it happens, try and make it useful to potential 848 owners

Excuse the crap phone quality, but you get the idea

I hope if you are running in that you let the old man know where you are so that he isn't held up in his volvo diesel

Pretty bike...enjoy

Stunning. Looking forward to the full power review.

Why is it an 848? Is that for a racing class like supersport?

No, it's not eligible for Supersport. No idea why they went 848 rather than a 750cc so they could race it again. I actually don't know much about them other than I liked the one I rode a few weeks ago, LOL!

But it's a "sophisticated" wet clutch apparently.

Ducati's description.
I guess the fact it isn't off a tractor is sophistication.

Apparently it's a kilo+ lighter than a dry clutch.

Why did you get the 848 over the 1098?

And just like on QI, just cos it's an obvious answer doesn't always mean it's the wrong answer.
