| I think that's the answer isn't it. My heart is shouting Griso, but for me that would be predictable. I have Italian transversely mounted 90 degree vees tattooed on my heart. Which is why I've been riding Speed triples for the last 5 years. I keep thinking - try something different. Are there any non-nakeds I might like? | |

Griso would get my vote. Looks waaaay better than the MT01. Have you seen an MT01 in the flesh, if i remember they are pretty tall (not that I'm calling you short or owt).

Was speaking to one of the guys at Harley garage who says 'nice but a bit gutless' - exact words. He's a pretty staright up bloke and wasn't trying to sell me a Harley (cos he knows I've got no money).

i won´t talk you out of it. i bloody love them! if you´re tall, the riding position is excellent. gutless? dunno about that. with around 80 odd RWHP and well over 100ft/lbs i´d say it is relative. they go bloody well, but you can´t compare them to any other bike as there is nothing else like it on the market. they handle quite well, but not as fast turning as sports 600´s/1000´s, but with a soddoff great engine like that, waddya expect? have a go on one, you´ll either fall in love or totally hate it. there doesn´t seem to be much in between as far as opinions go. me, i´d have one parked in the garage next to the lardmobile without hesitation. |

Had mine for 3 years now. Commuting? Well I suppose so. Watch out for lock-ups when throttling off in the rain. Fun stops at 130mph, which suits me. I like to use all of my bike. If I had a busa, every time out I'd want to max it. It's like having a smaller bike which doesn't get breathless. Bhp is pretty irrelevant TBH unless you're after big mph. At non-ban speeds it torque and gearing which matters. This is grunty anywhere from 0 to 130. The handling is very good. Not excellent, but very good. Pilot Road 2 are the tyre of choice. Stock tyres are shit. I love everything about the exhausts. I've got akros on mine and the sound is incredible. Filtering is like parting the red sea, they can *feel* it coming, never mind hear it. Other stuff. Pillions need to be flexible as the pegs are high. Throwover panniers are not possible. Don't buy one to be popular. This bike fits no pigeon hole so people don't know how to take you. Again, something I like. Parts and servicing are fucking expensive so shop around. Forget stage 3, it's stupidly expensive and voids warranty. You'd be better off doing the mods via an independent tuner. Plenty of scope to up the compression ratio. If you buy one you will hear the gutless comment a lot. I've had people ride mine and call it gutless, but I was behind them on their bike watching how they pussy with the throttle, waiting for the revs to rise before giving it some. Then when we swap back they can't keep up. Go figure. IME it just adds to the fun, I love it when IL4 guys ask me "what the fuck have you done to that to make it go like that?", when they just spent all their time as a speck in my mirror. Quote:
It's not a relaxed bike unfortunately. You can't cruise on it - it demands chucking around. Well mine seems to anyway. Get a test ride. Don't pussy the throttle at low revs, and see how you get on.

I've taken a cuople out and I loved them, especially as Yam ahd trouble shifting them coz of the RRP. A load of the later ones came out with the stage 1 tuning (Akro cans and summat else) IIRC. They can quite easily be boosted to exploit the grunt that a 1700cc engine can produce. Not that keen in the twisties...mind you they are a heavy beast to muscle around I'd definately have one if I could afford it as a second bimble round bike ....especially as they pop and fart like nothing else I've ridden on the overrun Go for it...then when you get bored I'll have it at a knock down price

I know a guy who got one recently, its got Akros (defintiely sound great) and a commander (I think). He reckons the torque and the engine braking are ace. he doesn't desribe it as gutless but says you wouldn't want to cruise at much over the ton..... He certinly puts it in the mental category, and believe me, he's mental. |

I rode a stock one last year and like most big twins these days, it needs uncorking the exhaust and maybe a pc. Vibrates at idle but not unpleasantly. Was kind of cool to see the fender vibrating like the old Nortons and other bikes of yesterday. You can pretty much start off in any gear you want. Seems to run out of jam fairly quickly but the redline is something silly like 4 or 5000 rpm. I thought the handling and brakes were damn good for a bike this size. Some of the parts are from the R1, brakes, swingarm I think, forks. As has been said, I would like one as a second bike if I could afford it. Small fuel tank. 15 litres I think. Have you thought about the 1200Breva Sport Guzzi? Forgot. Some people saying it's gutless is sort of misconstrued I think. With the low redline I thought to me, that I was shortshifting it a lot because the torque was so good. To me it didn't appear or feel like I was going that fast until I looked at the speedo. The bike is deceptively fast. It isn't any ZX10R or Gixxer but it gets to speed with very little drama. I could see it would be an easy bike to get speeding tickets on but being genuinely surprised when the Cop told you how fast you were going. I found it a very easy bike to ride. |
