having never ridden a two-stroke im pretty sure im missing out... well - i hear people raving on about them all the time, so.. i guess i am.... is it time for the return of the two stroke? the rumours are yes... with the latest advances in clean burning 2-stroike tech it is easily and commercially viable again for manufacturers to re-enter this market segment... heres an 'artists impression' of an updated for 2008 Yamaha RD350 what say ye?? | |

Most peoples love of 2 strokes is shrouded in nostalgia, it was their first mental bike and they were a right hooligan on it etc etc. They are great track bikes but Id never have a road 2 stroke no matter how much pointy bodywork and projector headlight you put on it.

Would love a 2 stroke, would complement my lardy ZZR nicely as an alternative for some hooliganism. But rather than it pretending to be a sports bike I would like something that will happily ride on road and offroad.. What I would like is a modern equivalent to the MZ that is fun to thrash around the bends and go doing silly things in the sand when you get bored with no danger of an plastics cracking when you bin it.

Never going to happen. MCN run this story every year - clean burn 2-smokes have been around for about 8-10 years now. The Di-tech engine system was used on a few Italian scooters, but they've never produced a largish capacity model with it. 2-stroke as a technology has a dirty reputation (within government/enviromentalist circles) and it'lll be very tough to change it. |
