People often waffle on about two strokes needing to rev hard and not being torquey.

Have they actually looked at the bloody rev counter whilst riding one?

They sound like they are revving hard but thats cos they are firing twice as often at the same engine revs.

As for not having much torque well thats a crock of crap as well, try putting two bikes of the same capacity and number of cylinders on a dyno, ones a highly tuned two stroke and the other is a highly tuned fourstroke then tell me which has the most torque.

I will grant the bit about them having a dirty little pipe though.

Oh and that Yamaha has a shorty pipe on it, how does that one work with an expansion chamber?

Not sure of how 'secret' it is or not, but I heard from a source last week that works for a certain large manufacturer that they are considering lobbying to get 2 strokes back as the engines in MotoGp.

Dunno how far it will get but apparently they are already working with large capacity strokers

I'm betting a tenner that it isn't Honda.

If its Japanese its got to be Yamaha.

looks nice! But they slipped up at the CG lab - it's got Kawasaki wheels on it

If the ZXR(?)250 sells well, perhaps we'll see more small capacity bike around again, so maybe that could be, say, a 350 or 400 parallel twin 4 stroke?

Love, peace and unity!

well - i hear people raving on about them all the time, so.. i guess i am....

is it time for the return of the two stroke? the rumours are yes...

with the latest advances in clean burning 2-stroike tech it is easily and commercially viable again for manufacturers to re-enter this market segment...

heres an 'artists impression' of an updated for 2008 Yamaha RD350

what say ye??

Oh yes.

loose the rim tape though, I hate rim tape.

On a broader note, bring back speed blocks on every Yamaha

Saw a Silk 700s advertised the other day. It seemed too cheap to be any good and parts are unavailable. Being too easily tempted to buy things I really don't need and can't afford I didn't pursue it.

Meant to be particularly torquey and fuel efficient.

Hmm.

500cc+ 2 stroke sports bike = yes

350cc urban motard thingy = no

2 strokes are the ultimate tease (bikewise) you can crack the throttle open below the powerband and not much happens until it gets to the magic RPM where the powerband starts when everything happens at once!

fabulous and great fun

Has it got speedblocks?

No, it's not happening.

Yup ! You got it, probably with an Allison transmission.

And you are right in your opinion. I repaired and rebuild them all over the country, including army and fire service vehicles
