From memory:

Kreiga R25 and Ortleib top equal (Kriega preferred as Ortlieb loading weirdly thru the straps)
3rd was the Knox 6 pack.

How about a Kreiga tail pack, apparently it has 4 quick release straps...

Kriega US-20

*this in the opinion of Aceboy, it is not designed to incite a riot or any other of the normal slagging that takes place on the interweb

I can't rec them cos I haven't tried them, but for something that looks VERY similar to Ortleib kit at a fraction of the price:

The dry tubes will be great to strap on the back of the bike and the pack looks great, if a little small at 25 litres.

I just recently got a 30 ish litre rucksack from tesco. well made (I think), comfy padded straps and best of all £12 (iirc).

It only goes into the topbox most of the way anyway, but it looks alright if I have to carry it, mostly black, with grey, and a little bit of scotchlite piping.

Love, peace and unity!

My point is the efficiency of the commuting process

wake up
ablutions
breakfast
dress
get on bike
ride to work
arrive at office
work

The backpack is part of the dress step. Tank bags etc add two steps to the process (attach, dettach).

Over 32 years you could have saved enough time to have 1406 more cups of tea.

Corrected for you

I find decent size tank bags can get in the way of either your turning circle or instruments view, both very necessary things when your filtering between in/out of cars. Plus the magnetic tank bags can scratch your tank if you're not really careful.

I have the big Oxford expanding tankbag
Oxford Products
which has a map pocket, an big expanding section, plus another normal size section. It also has various pockets on the outside and you can mix and match all or some of the sections. The main expanding bag also has backpack straps on it.

I still use this occaisionally, especially if I'm out and about taking photo's. It's nice to have the camera quickly available, but for my daily commute the backpack wins hands down. It's a little protected from the weather by your body, you know it's still there (unlike tailpacks), and it's just easy and convenient to chuck it all in then lob it on your back.

Wouldn't have done on my journey this morning. M4 shut at junc 13 but they didn't tell you on the signs until after you hit the tailback of traffic and gone past junc 14. Luckily it opened just as I filtered to the front.

Whole of the A4 around Newbury (in fact Newbury full stop) was jammed solid. Thank heavens I was on two wheels.

Wossa QD strap, then?
Anyway, to be honest I'd have to think very carefully before wearing a rucksack on a bike again and it would only be when all other alternatives are unavailable.

I'd rather send my stuff in a taxi ahead of me
