I've done a very sensible thing and bought a knackered old car that hasn't been started for over a year. Funnily enough it doesn't go now and I suspect any fuel in the float chambers has evaporated and gummed everything up. Is there a recommended carb cleaner I can spray to un-gum everything? Or are they all the same and I just pick the one with the prettiest packaging on the shelf? It's got twin SU carbs, H6 type btw |

Does it run at all or is there nuffin'? If it runs any old carb cleaner may help. If it's bad it may be a carbys off, strip and soak job. |

I used vinegar with some success. Others have used coke (I tried and thought it was shit, there y'go). There will probably be a load of green & brown shite in the float bowls, so remove them first and clean. If still no joy, submerge them in some vinegar for a day or two. |

| If you have CV carbs (which these are probably not) soaking them in petrol w/o removing the diaphragms, say, tends to feck them up. If you're sure there's absolutely no rubber or plastic parts that will be affected by petrol immersion then go for it. I realise that carbys will come into close contact with petrol but immersion is a different matter.
