Cubase LE - the free thing you get with various audio hardware. Do you have an unused copy? Would you be interested in parting with it? I might be interested in prising it out of your posession. It would have to be unused/unregistered though. I don't really want Cubase LE. I want Cubase Studio 4.

    Thanks

Only ever used hardware, and can't see any reason to switch. A real mixer is not much bigger than a laptop (unless you're talking 24 channel, in which case I can see the benefit, but if you're putting that much audio gear in a venue, the mixer will be not that much of a problem.

How many pros use a software mixer compared to a Mackie? None of the ones I know...

I have a Marshall Shredmaster instead now. They actually stopped making it now but apparently the Marshall Jackhammer is pretty much the same. Good contour control for scooping the mids or indeed boosting them for a lead sound!

Well, I'm more of a musician that a home producer. I can't get my head round it to be honest! I've done some of my own stuff, But I need to invest in some better gear... All my money has gone into live gear, Which I have more than I'll ever use in my lifetime!!!!

Thought I'd a few pictures of my stuff too... Not much here I'm afraid, I keep the majority of my gear away from the house bacause I haven't got the room here:

    1987 Ibanez Jem 77FP:

Carvin V3 valve amp, Ordered brand new from Carvins factory in San Diego... valves went after 5 months, But that's what you get for using UPS. An
    amazing and versatile amp:

Behringer V-Amp... THE best £70 I've ever spent on gear, Awesome for recording... But only gays use them live!!!

    Kicking around I also have:
    Marshall JCM-900 100w head
    Marshall 1960 4x12 300w cab
    Marshall 120w 4x12 cab w/Celestion vintage 30's
    Marshall 1922 150w 2x12 cab
Eros Acoustic (£30 worth of gold)
    Epiphone SG
    ADA MP1 Valve Pre-Amp

    Rocktron Pro-Gap Pre-amp
A bloody great rake of various stomp boxes...

I've just been listening to Zep, i posted in general a while ago about the squeakey bass pedal in "since i've been loving you". i can't enjoy it anymore, one of my favourite tracks by Zep that. but now i've found one in "The Ocean" too off houses of the holy.
its a poignant lesson in taking care of the details in a session.
no matter what level you're recording at, an errant fan left on, a squeakey bass pedal, a vocal mic facing away from the vocalist ( ) , making sure after every take that the tuning is checked on instruments..

its details like this that can ruin a great recording. it amazes me that those squeaks got through to be on the shelf.
if i find one on kashmir i'm gonna top myself.

I'm getting attacks of the guilts thinking about having it modified, but have a look at these guitars one of which started as gut strung, this guy is really sympathetic to old instruments and knows them backwards.

    Here are my toys.

    Martin DX-1R. Lovely

    Fender FB-55. Lovely

Hohner ST-59. Better than the price tag would suggest

rodbargee..... that Martin is delicious! :envy smilie: Personally I'd leave it as it is but depends how much you want it to be steel strung I guess.

hulloo there, i'll list what i can remember of my gear, its strewn all over lincolnshire at the minute...

    Sonar 7 producer edition
    soundforge 9c
plug-ins coming out of my arse
    yamaha 01v
    har-bal 2.3
    E-mu 1212m
    Gould Surfrider
    Fender Prodigy USA
    Behringer B1 x2
    Neuman tlm
    Sm 57x2
    beyer opus drum mics
    akg c14
    few rack mounted processors
    Native instruments Guitar Rig 2
    D.I. boxes etc

i'm missing loads here, i know it..

    you get the idea though.

i find the more gear i get, the more i go back to the basics and end up getting better results. for instance, i recorded vox with a behringer B1, basically because it was nearer than the neuman, and i couldn't be arsed to get it.
i was amazed at how good it sounded!
i'd left it unboxed and kicking around at the bottom of a leads box for a few months...

OK so SL&G are reforming for 2 gigs.

    Sat 6th December - Rome
    Sun 7th December - Vicenza

We haven't got anyone available who might play keyboards.
Of the 2 original keyboard players, 1 is living in LA and the other hasn't been heard from since he disappeared in Thailand about 20 years ago.....

    So could you do it?

    We'd be rehearsing in Watford.
Probably on Sundays but could be mid week evenings - it's tba atm.

We've played together once in the last 10 years or so so we'll all be relearning the set.

    Anyone?

Just bought my dream Guitar, well the basis of it anyway, its a 1946 Martin 00028 Brazillian Rosewood.......!!

Its a gut strung classical Martin which is the same body as the steel strung one of the same period.... it's even braced in the same way which is why as a classical guitar its not regarded as highly as the very much more expensive steel version. So the dilemma is should I get it "modified " to steel (new pin bridge, machine heads and re sculpted neck and fingerboard, frets etc) Because the bracing is already there, it's fairly easy to do (well for the guy I have in mind to do the Job it is) but it then becomes a modified original and not worth as much, but the guitar as a steel strung one is what I want and as the steel versions cost in the 8K bracket they're out of the question.

It's a three owner from new!! the guy who bought it, his descendant and my friend who bought it in Kentucky, still propped up against the piano the original owner played, he rarely played the guitar and sixty years later its almost in brand new condition, it really sounds wonderful too. So do I modify it into the guitar I can't afford (but want) but can now have! by getting it transformed. Or...... Answers on a ........

I promise to stop posting guitar porn in future....well, maybe.

I find all the home "ware" interesting, I have a version of Adobe Audition at the moment on the laptop with a good external sound card allowing me to start recording stuff without taking a Dat player out with me. Not sure I prefer it yet, protools and the like haven't in my view got the tactile feel or the quality I get so much out of at work, but are none the less amazing as to what you can achieve. M boxes and the like, good value for money but but don't yet stack up for really good quality recordings using posh mic amps etc. Yes I'm a bit of a Luddite but as this gear gets better by the minute I am embracing it.....now and then. I play very poor country blues mainly in the style of Broonzy on amongst other things a 60ish year old parlour guitar,

no particular make a guitar that probably cost $5 an was made to be sold mail order, could be a harmony, Regal, Kalamazoo, or any of those factory's but was cheap and not badged. The one on the right is a late fifty's Framus.

There's a link at the bottom to a mates Myspace who plays really well in the Broonzy style amongst others. I recorded most of his stuff and when you hear his version of Matchbox blues you'll know why I tend to record stuff rather than playing in public, as my playing is not a patch on what he makes sound easy.
