A font of knowledge about cycling (both off road and on road), with kit reviews and recomending areas to go off roading.

Maybe even organise mountain biking days out.

I stacked it this morning too, icy patch as I was approaching a Give Way line. A rather nice lass did come to my rescue though, so not all bad. I've Conti slicks on just now. Well, they have an inkling of tread, but they're certainly shite for clearing water/gripping in poor conditions. I shall be seeking out some treaded tyres very shortly.I'm more concerned I 'take' the crashes with me when I venture out on the motorbike.

It's ok -I freed them with dremel butchery ... one was a bit touch a go but big fuck off screwdriver rock when it comes to bike maintainence ... nearly as much as peening hammers

I can't get the balance right on mine either, really annoying. Still, they've only had 150 years to develop an easy to adjust system.

in a nutshell compact frames have a sloping top-tube and if youve got the right sized frame will feel for a week or two like its too small for you. Great at accelerating, cornering and climbing.

Normal frames will have a striaght top tube and look like a normal bike. If it has a small rear triangle will be good a t accelerating , but itll be a good all round bike.

Aluminium and salty roads dont get on at all well, youll need a really good coating of paint or powder coat to keep it away...

Yes and no, I could get a thread to match but I want to make my bike as standard as possible so I would like to use a normal bolt like most other people do.
I spoke to an ex bike mechanic about it and he didn't know what I was going on about, I'm going to take his advice and get a shop to do it as it will be cheaper than me making a mistake.

    I suggest something like this

Marzocchi MZ Race Remote Lockout 2008 | Buy Online | ChainReactionCycles.com

or the models above it at approx £120-140.

Shop around though as there are probably good sale prices around for 2008 model stuff.
Many thanks. One for the 'wishlist'.

I went out on it and did a fast 5 miles - I'm knackered!

Interestingly, I put the rear on back-to-front which gives good breaking on the front and good power-delivery on the back... I have a hefty uphill ride home, so that works!!

    Glad you've nailled your kit.

Personally I can't abide cycling in waterproofs as I sweat myself to drowning point within about 2 miles. I rely on wearing stuff that is still warm when it is wet, on the principal that I'm just as wet with rain as sweat :P

She wasn't blind, she knew you were there, but was exercising the Secret Highway Code Rule 1: You MUST always overtake a cyclist, no matter what the situation. Killing them in the process is perfectly acceptable.

A rule London's lorry drivers take a little too seriously.

Just spent the evening at Reading track, training night. Warm up was 30 laps behind the little Derny motorbike. Then sprint training. I was rubbish. Top fun though.

    i'll be number 11 then.
Started cycling in April after not being near a bike for about 11 years.
Must be mad, got RAMP tested yesterday and now got a training plan to follow. See if i can get my ride to work time down to 40 mins for 14 miles.

    I'll be number 10

I've done less cycling since I bought a motorbike, but I still try and get out at least once or twice a week, a mix of road and off-road. Currently own a singlespeed MTB, singlespeed road bike and a hub-geared road bike. I've also got a new (well, it's 18 months old but has never been used) geared MTB frame in the loft waiting to be built up.
