after reading the thread I now realise why so many kids drive with no insurance. If they get caught I would think it's a £400 max fine and some points - net saving £500+

And bankruptcy if they hit anyone, along with a risk of jail time. It's easy to assume that any accident will only involve you, but if they do hit someone else, then there's a world of shit coming in the civil courts.

I insured my daughter with Endsleigh.
IIRC it was £1400-ish for a 5yr old Clio 1.2
(she's 17 and at 6th form).

That was the best quote I got at the time from the reputable insurers, I probably could have got it cheaper but prefered to go with a recommended company.

Group is based on crashability, stealability and mendability.

Everything else will be the same, regardless of car.

In the end she found a rather nice little peugeot 306 and managed to insure it for just over £1100 - fekin rip off.
