Difficult if all you have is the Father's name. Do you have a name of the half-brother? Location or general area they were born? Date or year they were born? A mother's name would be useful to. Going through the Births, Deaths & Marriages records is a good start. Do you know if this half-brother knows the name of their real father? If so they may be on something like genes reunited. Have a look at family trees with the names of someone the same as the name you have, try and tie up dates, you might get lucky. TBH I got extremely lucky with my half-brothers...my Mum happened to meet a friend of theirs on holiday when she hadn't seen them for 26 years. I still have another half-sister out there I only found out about a few years ago, but have limited access to information to find her, and the whole "whether I should look for her" issue isn't quite as straight forward as it was with my brothers (she may not know her father is not her biological father)...of course, she could know and be looking. Good luck with the hunt |

Another thumbs up for genes reunited. My wife who was adopted at birth found her real mother through that site. Like you had very limited information but you can post up a looking for ad like she did and eventually someone who seen the ad and knew a friend of a friend put two and two together and made contact for her. Turned out the real mother was a right boot but now she knows.

In the case of my half brothers it was a case of asking round different bits of the family. There's always somebody who knows something.

Well it used to be Catherine House but now I note the records are here: Family Records Centre Find your own birth certificate and from that your mothers and fathers. You cross reference with the record of births (which will be under your mothers name). Don't be surprised if there are a number of identical names, hence the need for cross referencing with DoB. You should find a record of birth, from which you could apply for your half brothers certificate of birth but easier just to dig out the register of electors and find out where he lives. Forget about paying someone else to do it. It is such an intensely personal thing you should do it yourself. With luck, one day trawling through the huge bound volumes of data will tell you everything you need. Screwd. |
