Common sense would then prevail.
If the seeker is obviously a sponger then they would walk a different line to those that are genuine, we have people employed to differenciate between the two dont we, even after they have been housed etc...?

So based on the OP's original post I would say the laws are setup to be tolerant, that's about it.
Where abouts is here?
Genuine question not an attempt to piss on anything.

Wasn't meant like that, bad choice of phrase perhaps, but you're nitpicking I think....

Yes but our social welfare is expensive to administer so somethimes its cheaper to let people get away with stuff. I blame the expensive lawyers and the legal aid system to some extent here. What are you going to do though with so many lawyers in parliament.
(An old friend of mine has become a barrister specialising in legal aid work. He now says he wants to leave Hackney and live in Hertfordshire becase he keeps running into his undesireable clients (who he helps keep at liberty). What a cunt
I just wanted to punch his face.)

Generally anywhere outside the M25...

Re: Why are we so tolerant in this country.
That the British are 'tolerant' is one of these mantras that we parrot to each other. Are the Brits really any more tolerant than the Germans? The Americans? The Aussies? We say it to give ourselves a little pat on the back.
I see no reason to suppose we're much different than anywhere else.

I always use it like that because that is what it means.
For example:
I'm having a hard time identifying the *crime*
Clichés are valuable shorthand until you forget what they actually mean.

I think among the western democracies we may be about average but obvioulsy compared to say Saudi Arabia or north korea
However we had the most open door policy with realtion to the new eastern european meMbers of the EU and seem like one of the more popular destination for assylum seekers.

Which of course, begs the question as to why, so-called asylum seekers are entering our country at all.
No matter whether they fly in / boat in / smuggle themselves in, they have instantly contravened international asylum law, by not requesting asylum at their nearest 'safe' country.
I think you, and many like you, mistake 'tolerance' for weak, over-liberal government, who're in office for all the wrong reasons, rather than looking after the best interests of the British people.

I think the british people are very willing to help people who are genuinely in danger of ill treatment in their own country. My wife meets people who have had half their family murdered in front of them and deserve a chance to escape further persecution. I am not sure of the exact circumstances of why they are here and not in another country but i do know African countries take more refugees than any others due to their proximity to famine, civil war and opressive regimes.
I hope I havent missed the point here. We could for example direct our aid to proximate nations who are taking refugees and asylum seekers. However the suggestion is now that aid is creating powerull elites in these countries who are organising around mi appropriating these funds.

I think we should send everyone back.
Yep all those who can prove they are only of UK descent can stay, let's see if we can find one?

You left out the part about needing the asylum seekers to do the jobs that no British person would do. "Oh, half your family was killed? That's terrible... here is the plunger, start with the blocked toilets on level 1."

Would you care to do the same for virtually every other country on the planet?
