Default Camper conversion, stainless steel style!

This guy has taken a scrap Transit, rebuilt it and then fitted it out using mainly the material of his trade, stainless steel!

Some awesome work and ingenuity IMO.

It's a long read but he reckons he's worked out it's no heavier than using wood, he could be wrong though.

There's a web site for people that own Transits, Christ.

There is indeed!

There's also several websites for people who pretend they ride motorcycles.

I didn't read it all, but I didn't see any mention of using stainless, just ordinary steel, also how would you weld stainless to mild?

But an excellent piece of workmanship, well done.

Well the boggo transit body is made of steel too isn't it? So it's not as though he's replacing a light material with a heavy one. It'll still be heavier than the standard vehicle of course, but then again it's not gonna be filled up with cargo, so the vehicle should be able to handle the extra mass.

Obviously the body repairs were done in mild.

I said "fitted it out" with mainly stainless, complete exhaust system whole kitchen, gas locker etc.

It appears to be the camper conversion but that he's making out of SS ..ie the cupboards and units etc...the body work has been repaired and replaced with ordinary mild steel ...

Ah right...I can't see the thread you linked, s'blocked for some reason.

Still, even stainless steel units won't be a problem. The Tranny is cargo carrier innit, so even a metal kitchen is lighter than 3.5 tonnes of cement (or indeed, feathers).

Cheers, didn't read that far. Good on him, I say, too many people just throw things away these days.

a transit has a MAM ( or Gross vehicle weight)of 3500 kgs, that means the vehicle , fuel and the load, so they wont be carrying 3 500 kgs of cement.. the weight of the units, bedding and equipment will probably put the van very close to its weight limit whether done in wood or steel..
Its a nice piece of work though...

You're right about the MAM of course...but some bedding and cupboard weighing in at 2 tonnes? Surely not...
