What are the chances of Westminster council accepting 'I forgot' as an excuse and letting me off the fine?

Or failing that, will they refund me the £1 that I paid?

Low and no, I fear.

You could research road markings, and go out with a tape measure.

It's not impossible that the bay won't have been laid out correctly.

They are wise to that one, the last time I got done (ticket fell off the window) my letter was responded to with a dozen pictures of my car, the offence was "failure to display" so I had to pay up.

You do mean pay by phone for BIKE parking in westminster RIGHT?

If so then they will let you off your first ticket, the say no to bike parking website got the council office to admit that people make mistakes so they will if a letter is enclosed cancel your first ticket, on mistake you didnt understand the new parking scheme as your not from the area

You could try.

My first ever parking ticket was in a pay & display. I paid 10p, displayed the ticket and got a £6* penalty for not parking in a marked bay.

I took the ticket to the council office and paid £5.90.

By the way, I'd followed the signs to "FREE PARKING" so I wasn't particularly pleased at having to pay in the first place. The penalty just added insult to injury.


*No, I didn't have my man walking in front with a red flag. It was about 1982.
