Gold is expensive now, lots of money in it. I bought a gold chain on impulse because I thought it was cheap (for what it was) a few years ago, I don't wear it but when I took it to be valued a few months ago I nearly fell over. It was just lying in a drawer too. Sadly I can't wear it unless I want to look like this...(minus the cross and hairy beer belly...and tache) |

For whatever reason, scrap gold prices are currently pretty good, which means everyone wants to buy your broken jewellery, mismatched earrings, etc etc. And then there's a recession on so many folk want shot of their gold... And thus such companies spring up. Careful though, most will offer you a bit less than your local pawn shop, but you have to send it off for a valuation so there's a fair chance you wouldn't bother to have them sent it back if only slightly undervalued. Plus the fact most people haven't the first clue what it's worth. Top tip - they have zero interest in stones, they are taken out and at best used to replace missing ones from someone else's broken piece, they are not re-used in new jewellery. i would have thought that the gold companies would want to buy whne gold is cheap, hang onto it and sell it now - when it is expensive. So why are they all buying now - is it just because they think that people are going to sell now? I reckon when the prices drop a bit I shall buy a load of old gold and then just wait for it to go nuts again. |

| People dont know how much gold is worth. You send it off to the company, they make you an offer. I'm sure that offer is not going to be the best you could get but since you could not be asked to get yourself down to a jewellers chances are you'll accept the price offered. Obviously the price offered will ensure that said company will make a profit.

When I sent off my 2 cases of stolen nazi gold that I'd recovered from a sunken U-boat that was on it's way to Brazil at the end of the war, they offered me well below market value.

I've used them. We had several 'broken' bits, ols chains, old ear rings of the wife's. Stuff you couldn't sell at the jewelers/pawn broker. Got a resonable wedge for not a lot of broken bits. Result!!

| You could probably get a good scrap price on the sub though... If the pikey's don't get to it first that is.
