Without doubt a rocker.
Proper bikes
Maintaining them
The clothes
The hair style
Ton up
The Fonz influence
Not too bothered about the music tbh. Mum told me once my dad was a bit of a mod and wanted to have a scooter... oh the shame.

There was a quite distinct whiff of 40 about the Fonz but he still made Richie Cunningham and Ralph and Potski and Jodie and the other kids go into the toilet with him, calling it "his office".

Yeah my old man had a Morris Marina

when I was growing up as well. Fortunately he rolled it and wrote it off.

Unfortunately I was in it at the time.

You grew up in a Marina too!

Re: Mod or rocker?
I would have to say image wise Rocker it would have to be cos I always like James Dean and the whole ducktail thing but it seems the Mod's social scene was where it was at. The Rockers look a bit "no life" types, sitting around on Friday night talking bikes while the Mods were out doing drugs and getting laid.
Even though I am one of the resident metrosexuals I have to say the Mods looked gay as fuck!! If you got beaten up by them you would probably die of embarrassment.
So I like the Rocker image but the Mod party scene seemed to be where it was at. Rocker Mon-Fri, Mod on Saturday night ?

Re: Mod or rocker?
Rocker. In fact around Chester in the mid / late 70's when I was getting on 2 wheels there was a big Mod revival and there used to be dozens and dozens of "Cloud 9" mods converging on Chester on a Friday night. Scooter baiting was a popular sport

Neither. I'm actually quite proud to have been part of the dance music scene in the late 80s/90s though.

Your knowledge of clothing labels is impressive.
We could- and still can- handle the worst burds.

He's still into ska and goes to see all these old bands, there is also a huge scooter-boys group down by where he lives, all bomber jackets, doc martins and birds with skinheads but funnny long fringes.
Obviously I'm too young to have been there in the beginning but according to all these old guys they all used to hang out with the black guys, listen to ska and reggae and there was absolutely no racism involved. In fact in Jamaica there is still a huge ska following and I've seen some amazing bands out there.
The racism and violence only came in once the monkeys and soccer hooligans picked up the trend. As is the case with everything, the Union Jack used to be a nice flag to hoist until the NF got hold of it.

I was there Iccy, skinheads were always a violent sub-group. Sorry, but that's how it was. Reactionary right-wing thinking working class* racist thugs who probably voted Labour because their parents did. They were the original soccer hooligans and bitter racists who reckoned that 'Enoch is right'
Mods (d)evolved into skins. It wasn't a pretty sight.
*that describes me too, lest you think I'm being my usual snobbish self

As I wasn't there I can't argue, but how come a lot of old film shows them in ska and reggae clubs with black people?
