I'd try asking someone in an electrical shop ![]() Most blokes on here wouldn't know how to use one... the rest are more concenred about it surviving as long as the next ice age... the final few are taking it apart just to see if it's all OK inside...

A friend who owns a leccy shop says don't buy anything other than Bosch, Siemens or Neff (essentially the same group stuff).

Miele are very good but a large initial investment. When I bought mine the 5 year warranty was £15 rather than the more usual £150. An insight on how often they will need to payout I think. |

I've got a Servis, which isn't an expensive brand, yet it seems ok even with the hammer it gets with regularly washing uniforms etc.

We had a Hopoint for some years and got sick of paying £100 a year for a service contract that we were absolutely sure we would need. In about 6 years it had 3 new dums (the first within the first year), and several miscellaneous other incidental failures. I don't think a year passed without us having to call an engineer to fix it. When it finally failed three times in a month we decided enough was enough. It wasn't cheap either. We bought a Miele to replace it, and the build quality is incomparable. Mind you it was the best part of a grand. It's also incredibly quick. |

+1 for the Miele. Had one which never missed a beat and as far as I know is still going strong after 8 years. Expensive to begin with though!

A chap in the repair trade said the cheaper Miele are now full of the cheapo Italian parts (one Italian maker supplies something like 90% of the market) We got a John Lewis one and it is rather lovely (as washing machines go) and std 3 year gtee. |

He said pretty much the same thing...the finish is excellent ( no sharp edges when working inside, etc ) and that attention to detail carries on throughout the machine. 10 year parts warranty as standard too, iirc.

Just to give 'the other side' on this thread, I had a Bosch which caught fire and set my house ablaze (well just the utility room fortunately). ![]() I now have a Zanussi. |

Wouldn't buy a Bosch ever again after the last one kept breaking down. Currently have a 7kg wash load Candy which is cheap (to buy and run) and does 2 loads a day, and hasn't missed a beat over the last couple of years (you can even fit a king sized duvet in it as well) |
