What book/comic/video game/historical event or whatever, do you reckon should be made into a film?

Ever since I read it over 25 years ago, I've wished that a film was made of this book:-

Anyone who likes 'vampire tales' will love this one. Unfortunately the book is out of print I believe, so you'd have to hunt out a second-hand copy.
I remember that I couldn't put the book down once I'd started to read it.
Would make a fantastic film IMO.
More about the book from here:-

    Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan

Richard Morgan: Altered Carbon - an infinity plus review

This is a first novel so exciting, so addictive and so bone-crunchingly in your face that it beggars the need for such virtual reality as it occasionally employs.
.....the violence, even the worst of it, works within the novel, alternately raising the hackles and gladdening the heart as you read, and illustrating the cheapness of life in a milieu where almost everybody backs up their consciousness and those who can afford it are 'sleeved' in a new body upon death (or merely boredom, if you're rich). There are big guns, hard drugs, AIs based on Jimi Hendrix, Martians and some of the sexiest, nastiest technology since Neuromancer, all set against a galactic background of paranoia and fear.

I think the burning his feet to a stump with a blowtorch scene could be hard to get through the censors but it would make a good film.

A good violent western, based on the 'Edge' series of books. I was reading these when they first came out in '72.
Would make Clint Eastwood's 'Man with no name' very tame in comparison.

I used to always be thinking of what book would make a good film, but in me old age I'm getting cynical because every book I've ever thought that about which has been made into a film, has been shite .

Not that there aren't plenty that have turned out well, just not the ones that I've wanted, lol.

I reckon that with the better special effects nowadays some of Ian M Banks Sci Fi Culture books should be achievable, as long as they don't cock it up by making them a 15 cert and make them an 18 instead.

Stranger In a Strange Land (Heinlen)

Although a tv mini-sries might be better than a film, so you could get it all in.

Always thought Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat books would make a good tv series too.

They'd have to be series length to make any sense!

I agree with you on that, the rats would be a cool film too, especially the third one, set during the nuclear blast over London.
