Default Giving up smoking with 'Champix'

Decided to give up smoking again. The nurse has talked me into taking 'Champix'. If you don't know what it is, it's a tablet. You take 0.5mg tablet once a day for the first three days then two 0.5mg tablets twice a day then up to 1.0mg tablet twice a day. apparently it dumbs down your receptors to nictine, making it easier to give up.
We will see about that!!

Anyway, my reason for the thread is the sheer amount of side effects you can get. Here goes.

very common side effects which may affect more than 1 person in 10 are listed below.
  • Headache
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Abornormal dreams (by this the nurse tells me they mean errotic dreams)
  • Nausea

  • Dry mouth
  • Sleepiness
  • tiredness

  • Diarrhoea
  • constipation
  • feeling bloated

  • Inflamation of the sinuses
  • Fever
  • Feeling cold
  • Feeling weak or unwell
  • Viral infection
  • Congested sinuses
  • Shortness of breath
  • cough
  • Horseness
  • Throat pain or irritation
  • Runny nose
  • Snoring
  • Lose of appetite
  • Feeling thirsty
  • Increased weight
  • Feeling of panic
  • Difficulty thinking
  • Mood swings
  • Tremor
  • Difficulty wth coordination
  • Difficulty with seech
  • Less sensitive to touch
  • Increased muscle tension
  • Restlessness
  • heart rythm disturbances
  • Increased blod pressure
  • Increased heart rate
  • Disturbed vision

  • Mouth ulcers
  • Pain in the gums
  • Coated tongue
  • Skin rash
  • Cyst
  • Fungal infection
  • Reddening of the skin
  • Itching
  • Acne
  • Incresed sweating
  • Chest wall and rib pain
  • Stiff joints
  • muscle spasms
  • Glucose in urine
  • Increased urine volume and frequency
  • Increased mentrual flow
  • Vaginal discharge
  • changes in sex drive or ability

Well that's it. Do you think they are covering all their bases with this one? It also says do not double up on doseage if you forget one as you will need to go to A&E immediately

I mean!! who the hell did they test these on 'The local Hypochondriac Society'?

Can't wait for the erotic dreams to start

You don't want "Champix", you want one of these -

The Electronic Cigarette Company (UK) Ltd. - SHOP - KITS > SUPER (10CM) E.CIG

Electronic cigarette.

I've used one for a couple of months now, brilliant, and you can "smoke" it in the pub etc.

Can you still dream that you're having a cigarette afterwards?

Nope, usually students and the terminally ill. If they say 1 - 100 will be affected by a certain side effect, they mean it.

I gave up (for the second time) two weeks ago. This time I used nothing at all, but the last time I used those inhaler things.

If I read a list of side effects like that on a pill I wouldn't touch it.

if I understand it correctly it's basically a SSRI. If you know what that is, then maybe I wouldn't mess with it, or Zayban or whatever.

If you don't then hey-rather minor side effects than cancer, etc.

You could just stop smoking, it's just will power which you will need in spades anyway if it's going to stick. That sounds like a hell of a lot of side effects for a treatment that is both expensive (presumably) and of questionable effectivity.

@ baldy. Can you really smoke those leccy fags in pubs?

I wonder if they sell those on this side of the pond?

I tried Zyban before and it gave me some reall shit side effects. Had to quit the stuff right after I started. Apparently Zyban was originally used on mental patients. It's a shitty anti-epressant according to my Doctor.

You sure can, I've yet to meet a landlord who doesn't think they are a good idea.

I use the exact same method. 10 weeks down the line I am not quite so smug though. My normal hippy persona has gone out the window and have spent half the last 10 weeks in a paranoid rage looking for a fight
