Thumbs up Re: Oi, Metallica fans...

Been a Metallica fan since the late 80s.

I thought everything up to the black album rocked, black album was ok, still liked load & reload - just a bit of a different direction. Absolutely loved S&M & Garage Inc. And I must be the only person who actually liked St Anger! (Or at least the only one willing to admit to it ).

Can't wait for the new album.

Safe riding.

Problem is that if you were a fan of the early stuff, it's hard to relate to most of it after the Black album. AJFA, MOP, RTL are a different kettle of puppies to load etc.

And yes, Sunny, they did rock at download...

I watched the Metallica set at Reading this morning (well, 40 mins of it). I still don't like them - really, not my thing although my ears are open to give anything and anyone a try before I pass judgement.

Talented, but no - pass, although Seek & Destroy (I think that's what it was called anyway) had some kind of grove going though but the rest were forgettable.

Tenacious D on the other hand, their set was superb. To think I was drinking with, and hugging Kyle Gass just a few days before (see claim to fame thread).

I've just listened to the first three songs on Death Magnetic. As a massive fan of Metallica, I waited with nothing more than profound pessimism for the first track to start... WOW!

As far as I'm concerned, and you can lambast this all you want when you hear it, It's f**king BRILLIANT! I was smiling like a schoolboy, I was soooo excited to hear a proper Metallica album... It's all there, crunching riffs, fast drums, barking vocals and Rob Trujilo's bass makes it all the better.

Like I say, Think what you like until you hear it, But as a lifelong fan I'm going on the record and saying it's as good as anything I've heard since Ride the Lightning!

Ambition got the better of adhesion in that corner

Cos you're saying this I'm almost tempted, but I haven't bought a Metallica album since Black for very good reason. As good as Ride the Lightning? That's some claim.
I see CDWOW are doing it on pre order for £8 and there's the odd 50p or £1 voucher knocking about on the web... but I'd be nervous about spending even that on a new offering.
Do you know where I can find these tracks of which you speak, or are you too important to divulge such information?

I put my Reading review in my blog today, BTW - http://www.therevcounter.com/blogs/m...al-review.html

Well, Maybe not as good, But if RTL is 10/10, I'd give Death Magnetic a SOLID 8/10... Like I say, I've only heard the first three tracks, But I REALLY liked them!

I don't know where they came from... My mate called me today and said "I have the new album IN MY HANDS!", I could only stay to listen to the first 3, but he insists that it's a GREAT album!

*EDIT* Track one here... Get it before some f**ker takes it down
