Astral Projection My First Experiment *plus Meditation technique*

Posted 01-08-08 at 14:32 by MrFiction
I first learnt meditation when I was 8 years old when I started martial arts. I never really understood it, though. It was when I was around 10 that a stand-in teacher at Middle School taught me her technique for (I believe) Transcendental Meditation.

Transcendental Meditation is taking your consciousness out of your body freeing your mind in an almost ultimate sense.

20 minutes of this feels like youve slept for hours, and leaves you extremely relaxed and in a state of heightened awareness. Heres what she taught me:

Some people prefer to meditate in a totally silent, or at least quiet place. For this technique, a bit of noise is good. Try to avoid sudden loud noises close to you, but other than that anywhere is fine. Clear your mind and concentrate on performing only each step slowly.

Sit on a chair (or however else you feel comfortable, but a chair will work best for learning) with your feet flat and your back straight, with your hands resting on your thighs palms-upward.

Imagine that there is a pole running inside the length of your spine keeping it straight whilst you relax.

Close your eyes and concentrate on breathing deeply and evenly for a few minutes. Your aim is to recreate the way you breath when you are asleep breathing from your solar plexus rather than just from your lungs.

Feel the weight of your body upon the chair, then concentrate on the weight of your feet on the floor and your hands on your thighs.

Feel the coolness of the air on your skin, and its movement over your body.

Listen to the sound of your breathing for a while. Then to the sound and feel of your heartbeat.

Listen to all the sounds close to you in the room maybe a ticking clock, the sound of a fire or air conditioning unit etc. Let your hearing flick from one sound to the next, but always staying on the sounds within the room.

Next, expand your hearing to beyond that room. Listen to the sounds within the rest of the house/building. Concentrate on hearing all of them, but not focusing on any for too long. If you find your attention fixed by a sound, move on to another sound.

Then expand your field of hearing again to the area outside around the building.

Repeat this outwards until you are hearing the farthest sounds away the distant hum of a motorway etc.

Relax and let your mind wander over these sounds, never touching on any for long.

You may find that as you're doing this, you'll see the sounds/areas you're listening to. This is where there is the tie-in to Astral Projection/Covert Viewing, for obvious reasons.

Now, there's every chance that you'll lose track of time in this state, so be aware of this!

When you're ready, bring your hearing slowly back into the room one stage at a time, then slowly open your eyes.

Personally, I find that its like looking through blue-tinted glass for a while afterwards. Almost everyone else I've taught sees the same. Some say this is seeing your own aura and blue is the colour of healing/rejuvenation.

I used to do this almost daily, but haven't done it properly for years now. It's also possible to do this with your eyes open, as the teacher used to demonstrate with a spooky vacant stare during assembly.

Anyway feel free to give it a go! It's very relaxing and refreshing.

In the next part of this blog series, I'll tell you how I and a number of my friends decided to use this meditation technique for our first foray into Astral Projection...

Thanks for starting this blog. I sadly haven't been doing as much meditation as I really should. But like you, I started at a very early age. I used to be able to relax enough, that I could begin to basically rock my self out of my own body. Sadly the stress of life seems to prevent me from doing it these days, but I really should get back into it. I still carry out 'chakra' meditation, but have had a few not so nice experiences when stupidly I have fallen asleep whilst doing it!
For those that are interested and if you don't mind.. CD's Glenn Howard are a good starting point, and the following link may also be of some use. How Meditation Works
interesting that you also mention auras. People see them in various colours and as you say, they indicate a persons health and well being. I quite often spend time looking at mine and that of others. Magic eye pictures are a very good way of teaching yourself the type of eye and mental focus that is required to see it. Strangely I only ever see a glacier blue colour.

Just one observation.. I always ground myself before doing any meditation. It may be something for you to consider.

I haven't done it for years myself now. I think it'd take a few tries just to be able to get to that state without thinking too much about each step...

What do you mean by grounding yourself?

At the risk of getting shot down by the TRC massive for doing it, I shall try and write something down during the week about grounding yourself and closing yourself down after meditating.

Failing the above, I shall try and find some links for you.

edit from the above. If you Google 'grounding yourself meditation' you should find plenty of info, although you may just want to read the parts that feel relevant to you and just discard the rest.
It does a make a difference and, in my case it stops me from getting dizzy, emotional and a few other things besides, including some not so nice things.
Get everything right and the experience of sitting down and feeling that your feet are buried in the ground while your body and head is feeling as though it is being stretched like a rubber band traveling upwards can be one of the experiences in your life.

Depending on how far you want to things, here are a couple of links about chakras

Barbara Brennan's explanation of the chakras

The Shakta Theory of Chakras

This one below may not be very relevant for your meditation purposes, but you may still find it interesting, I often flick back to it as a useful resource for my purpose.

Psychic Skills Exploration & Development Table of Contents

I'm also thinking about getting myself signed up on one of these classes. The site also has further meditation links at the bottom.

Tar muchly - I shall have a good read of those!

I've been meaning to look into the whole chakra thing, because I'm sure I can get it in synch with my pressure point training from martial arts...

The whole grounding thing sounds a bit like the 'protection' that you need for mediumship... but that's a whole different story!

Sounds very interesting, not sure it's something i'd like to try on my own the first time though, what if you can't get back from the motorway!

Whilst reading a mind/body book today, I came across the practice of Qigong. I've never heard of it before, but a quick search for it on Google, made me wonder if Qigong could have something to offer you. Qigong - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Qigong is interesting stuff that I haven't really had the time to delve too deeply into. Having said that I've touched on it through my Japanese martial arts and study of pressure points - but nowhere near as deeply as I'd like to, if I had the time...

As with most things out there it seems like there's a hell of a lot of crap out there from people copying the basics without really knowing what they're doing.
