New Life....well let's just hope

Posted 10-08-08 at 15:06 by Editor
Meet Millie

Isn't she fat? No, not pies (yet), it's puppies. We hope. She's due on Weds, but she's started some of the 48 hour warning signs yesterday, although her appetite is still extremely healthy!

Whilst we're doing visuals, here's Dad:
(to follow)

It's going to be an interesting mix. Millie is, whilst not bred by Dereheath, has an excellent Dutch father & Portugese mother whose sister is a champion. Both of these lines add interest & diversity. Dad is Champion Dereheath Jolly Jon, known as Dougie. Dougie is litter brother to our 1st Basset (Wellington) & the father of the Best In Breed Basset at Crufts this year. We know him as Ralegh, as he lives in our kitchen too. So a mix of new & the very familiar. Will it be Daddy or chips, we'll just have to wait & see!

Millie's a funny girl-bright as a button, nose into everything & usually lives with a terrorist. By which I really mean Morris Minor, who's a PBGV, a hound. Officially; I promise you now there's no bl**dy hound in this thing-it's 100% terrier. It runs like one, hunts like one, digs like one & laughs at you like one. Anyhow, you need a sense of humour, a degree of stoicism, some patience & the ability to put it into it's place when it (frequently) overtseps the mark. Qualities that Millie has, so that puts her ahead of yer average basset!

So I've been sleeping downstairs for the last 2 days & rereading my books as it's me for midwifery duties & all being well, the overnight watch for the next 3 weeks. She's been in maternity bloom lalaland for much of last week-gazing into nowhere with a grin on her face & generally looking to me for reassurance over this weekend.

I so hope it's going to be an easy one.

More to follow, & perhaps you'll excuse me if I ask that it's all extremely boring. I've had quite enough of doggy drama for this year!
